These adverts come from a book I bought in a charity shop recently. It was compiled by Leonard de Fries in collaboration with Ilonka van Amstel from the collections of Mr Roland Knaster and The British Museum, and printed in 1968 by William Clowes and Sons Ltd, London & Beccles. I do hope I'm not infringing anyone's copyright by posting these. I just thought they were so delightful that they deserved a wider audience. You will see that nothing has really changed - our ancestors had the same concerns as we do - only the styles and prices were different.
