Seeing where they lived, it’s not hard to understand how
  • Jonathan Wheeler’s son, our 6GGF Oliver Wheeler I, born in Lancaster and buried here, and also

  • his son, our 5GGF Oliver Wheeler II, born here and buried in New Hampshire,
each in some sense arguably a Carlisle boy, are both known to history as “Oliver Wheeler of Acton.” The language does make for some confusion. It seems clear now, by the way, that it was (at least mainly) Oliver II who took part in the Lexington-Concord Alarm.

Main Street in Acton is Route 27, a busy state highway. About two and a half miles north of Acton Centre, just past the barely-discernible village of North Acton, Main Street crosses the old railroad and enters our ancestral neighborhood…
