St. Mary Monastery

Here’s the Saint Mary Monastery, the Temple’s immediate neighbor across the street to the west. From the intersection of Mulholland and Wells Streets, looking to the northwest, the Temple is just off the picture to the right. By the time this picture was taken, this entire complex had been purchased by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I was told that the sisters would be moving by the end of the month (November 2001). By the time you read this, the “Monastery” sign will probably have gone away. The northern portion, visible at far right and here had already undergone transformation to its new identity as the Joseph Smith Academy.
