Oliver Wheeler in Elton—The end of the road
back The end of the road next
Here1, after all his struggles and transitions, lies Grandpa Oliver.

The excellent Gertrude Barber was able to read here that he died 18 September 1854, aged 72 years, 3 months. The stone must have been in better condition when she saw it, and probably upright. We had to clear some grass away to see it this well.

Below, a couple of context shots to assist any friends or relatives who may wish to pay their respects.

We were moved and gratified to learn later that the Holmes family had taken flowers to Oliver’s grave on his 225th birthday 12 June 2007. With all the disappointments in this world, it is a blessing to be reminded just how thoughtful people can be. Thanks, Kristie and Wade!
