Grandma Sophia
Grandma Anderson’s mother, Sophia Jensena Mogensen Poulsen (1867-1943) of Mount Pleasant, Sanpete County, Utah, was my only surviving great-grandparent, in those days.

I have it on good authority that she pronounced her distinguished forename (it means "wisdom" in Greek) “sof-EYE-uh.” “So-FEE-uh” seems to happen more in Latinate families. Mediterranean, she emphatically wasn’t.

This is the only photo I’ve seen of the two of us. I do recall, or think I recall, hearing her referred to as “Grandma Poulsen.” I look pretty comfortable on her lap.
