Richard was born before 25 MAY 1823, the son of Joseph Terry and Elizabeth Garner. The place is not known.[Note 2]
He died on 15 MAY 1870 in Longford, Tasmania.[Notes 3, 4, 5]
His wife was Mary Ann Baulch, who he married on 27 DEC 1855 in Perth Church, Longford, Tasmania. Their nine known children were Elizabeth (1857-1942), Joseph (1859-1942), Maria (1861-1938), Charles (1862-1907), Richard (1864-1938), Recent Jane (1865-?), Ellen (1867-?), Louis (1868-1883) and Albert James (1869-1941).

BIOGRAPHY: transported in 1844 with 5 others (including brother & uncle) for rape of Mrs Pepper
Richard Terry, tried at Aylesbury Assizes on 9th March 1844 for the rape of Mrs Ann Pepper. He was sentenced to transportation for life. They found he aided and abetted in the rape. Arrived at Norfolk Island per Agincourt on 9th November 1844. He arrived in Tasmania in 1847. Also on board for same crime his uncle Richard Terry and his brother Joseph. Conduct in colony; 19 Nov 1844, Norfolk Island/ larceny, 7 days in irons, 9th May 1848 probation pass-holder, 8th Feb. 1850 prisoners barracks , Launceston/ misconduct in not proceeding according to his pass and producing a forged one. Six months imprisionment and hard labour. 5th Dec 1854, ticket of leave, 25 Nov 1856, conditional pardon. Description; Occ. farm labourer, height; 5.4 1/2; age 23, complexion dark,head oval, hair grey, whiskers grey, visage oval, forehead narrow, eyebrows dark, eyes hazel, nose medium, mouth medium, Church of England, could not read or write. ... others committed the crime, John Hale, William Adams and Thomas Sprately.
