Benjamin was born before 6 JUL 1845 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the son of John Allen and Elizabeth Ridgway.

He died on 28 NOV 1929 in Sidcup, Kent.^{[Note 1]}

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Mary Persis Green, who he married on 03 MAY 1879 in Camberwell Church, Surrey. Their four known children were Ben Richard Edward (1880->1918), Maud Mary (1882-1928), Arthur George (c1885-1917) and Recent Percy (1886-?).

His second wife was Emily Agnes Arkcoll, who he married in ABT FEB 1896 in Lewes registration district, Sussex. Their two known children were Maud Mary (1882-1928) and Joyce Edith May (c1899-?).
