Mark Atherton & Hannah Heath

My father, Donald Atherton, was the middle child (first son) of Mark Atherton who married Hannah Heath on 29th April 1914. Mark gave his occupation then as Master Mariner - he was captain of a coaster, and my brother John has his various mate's and master's certificates and medals. This was also the occupation of his father, also Mark, whose career should have been easy to trace through the Naval records at Kew, but there is no trace of him there.

My father said in 1988:

"Mark (my father) was born in 1887; married Hannah Heath in 1912-14. They had three children -

"Kathleen b. 18/12/14 m. Stanley Fenemore (Metallurgist) d. Dec 1986. They had one son.
"Donald (myself) b. 19/6/17 m. 19/6/43 to Kathleen Maud Sime - 4 children
"Frank b 17/12/18 m Daisy "
