Married at St. Mary's Church, Droylsden, on November 3rd, 1888, Mr. and Mrs. James Moss, of 4, Medlock-street, Droylesden, celebrated their diamond wedding on Wednesday. Neither of them natives of Droylsden, Mr. and Mrs. Moss have lived in the town for over 60 years, and in their present house for 35 years. Mrs. Moss was born at New Mills and Mr. Moss hails from Buckinghamshire. 
Mr. Moss' father and mother brought their large family north when times were bad on the land, and, whilst still a boy, he started work at Harrison's Brickyard, behind Droylesden Police Sation, earning the princely sum of 2d. per hour. After that he held a variety of jobs in cotton and other industries, retiring about 16 years ago from the employ of Messrs. T.E. Marchington and Co. Ltd., Droylsden. Mrs. Moss started work as a half-timer in a paper mill at New Mills, earning 2s. a week. Later she worked in the cardroom at the Victoria Mill Mr. Moss is 85 years of age and his wife three years his junior. Both enjoy good health "and appetites," and their vigour belies their years. They have three sons and four daughters living, also four granchildren and one great grandchild. This is the second diamond wedding in the family. The whole village of Tinswick [sic] feted Mr. Moss' parents when they celebrated their union about 25 years ago. |
