Joseph Cornelius Sear was born in Tingewick in 1872, son of Thomas Sear who had married Mary Brooks in Oxford in 1861 Click to enlarge
In 1891 he was working in London as a post office sorter
In 1893 he started work with the the London Brighton and South Coast Railway on the recommendation of Lord Cottesloe
In 1906 he married Ethel Gladys Hazel Dangerfield
In 1927 he died in "mysterious" circumstances - a Coroner's Officer's Report was issued ...
... and a first inquest held and adjourned ...
... but a second inquest found that the cause of death was "Coma due to purulent meningitis following middle ear disease of the left side".
