On June 2 Mr. and Mrs. John Moss celebrated their Diamond Wedding, having been married in Tingewick Church on that date in 1863. A tea was given in their honour in the Council School, at which many of their descendants (who number 50, including 16 great-grandchildren) were present, together with friends from the village. A beautiful wedding-cake was provided by the family, and another was given by the Mayor of Buckingham, Mr. T. Hawes. A letter of congratulation from H.M. the King, which was read by the Rector, was greeted with loud cheering, as were also the toasts of the King and "the bride and bridegroom." Capt. Bowyer, M.P., also wrote a kind letter, accompanied by the gift of a handsome ink-stand. The village was en fete for the occasion, with flags flying, bells ringing, and music from the band.
The Diamond Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. John Moss, of Tingewick near Buckingham was celebrated with due rejoicings on Saturday last. They were married the Parish Church, Tingewick on June 2nd 1863, the Rector, the Rev. John Coker, officiating, and of the marriage there are surviving four sons and two daughters, 43 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. The sons are Mr. James Moss, Manchester; Mr. William Moss, Tingewick; Mr. John Moss, Manchester; Mr. Joseph Moss, London; and daughters, Mrs. Jane Gallagher, Manchester; and Mrs. Emily Barnes, Mixbury. The aged couple were the recipients of congratulatory telegrams and letters, and also presents. The letters included the following from their Majesties the King and Queen, Capt. Geo. Bowyer, M.P., M.C, and the Hon. Mrs. Bowyer, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Buckingham (Alderman T. and Mrs. Hawes) -

An excellent tea was partaken of in the Old Schoolroom by a company numbering some 40 and 50. The Rector, the Rev. P. E. Rayner presided and was supported by Mr. and Mrs. John Moss and family, Mr. A. Lucas, C.C, Mr. C. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. F. Hadland, Mr. E. Pollard, Mr. E. Pollard, jun, Mrs. Geo. Pollard, Mr. Geo. Cross (who was married on the same day, June 2nd, 1863, at Tingewick Parish Church), Mr. Jonathan Price, Mr. R. Lewis, Mr. Geo. Cracknell, Mr. T. Aris, Mr. F. Barrett, ect. Following the repast a very pleasant time was spent in complimentary toasts and songs and dances. The Tingewick Brass Band, under the conductorship of Mr. Geo. Neal, played selections of music; violin solos were given by Mr. Hector Moss (grandchild), and songs were sung by Messers. R. Lewis, C. Gallagher, J. Gallagher, J. Holton, W. Brawn, W. Moss, H. Moss, W. Barnes, A. Barnes, and Geo. Cracknell. The preparation of the tea and other arrangements were admirably carried out by Mr. A. Lucas, Mr. T. Ridgway, Mrs. Warman, Mrs. Steeden, and Mrs. H. Barnes.
