Norman (Nelson) and Ida Wimbush

Norman Nelson Wimbush

Norman and Ida Wimbush outside the Bodleian Library in Oxford about 1960. Norman Wimbush was very badly facially wounded in World War I and his face was rebuilt by some of the earliest plastic surgery - you can see this from the photo. In the photo he has just taken his M.A. degree. He had taken a B.A. at Oxford in the early 1900s and decided to 'upgrade' around 1960 - no study or exam necessary, just a ceremony!
