The people of Tingewick, Buckinghamshire (England)

undated and incomplete but probably written around 1863 to Richard? in Tasmania from his mother Elizabeth in Tingewick

Transcription kindly contributed by Gwennith May Smith (1929-2010), great-granddaughter of Richard Terry, through her daughter Virginia Ling

Although incomplete and undated it was presumably written after husband Joseph's death in Aug 1862: Eliza has two children living so it must be EITHER before birth of her 4th child about 1863 or after its death sometime before 1865.

At Twyford

Dears I must tell you that I am still living where I was, I have Eliza and her Husband and two little ones with me, and thank the Lord we are comfortable as can be expected, now my dears I must say that your Sisters and also their Husbands all join in love to you, and as it is our greatest wish and desire that this may meet the eyes of there beloved Brothers and find them all living comfortably, in this world, and has it is unexpected that we shall meet in this world we may meet in the world to come, where there is joy for evermore and now to say that we are all and one very anxious to hear from you which we beg be soon shall, So Dears I must inform you that your old friend Everet has come to the Days long since he as been troting round London selling halfpenny Books or any thing for a crust, which is often seen with such men as he was,

For now we will conclude for the present From your ever Affectionate and loving Mother

Elizabeth Terry
