Joseph Sear -
I had your letter of the 1st March and was glad to hear that you have entered the service of the Brighton Railway Company as a Telegraph Clerk. The pay will be small at first, but you will have every hope of rising, if, as I am sure you will do, you go on steadily and show yourself worth of my recommendation.

Yours faithfully
