These pages briefly describe the growth of Jim and Ora's family over the years. Most of us grandchildren called them Mama and Papa Burnett, so we'll refer to them that way. Sue has traced the Burnett line back to Thomas Burnett of Aberdeen Scotland in 1574. For the story of our earliest Burnett ancestors, see Sue's history, The Burnetts Of Scotland. Papa was born in 1876 in Graves County, KY, the seventh child of seven brothers and four sisters, whose father was William Harrison Burnett and mother was Rhoda Jane Garnett Burnett. Both of Papa's parents were from Trigg County, KY.
Mama was born in 1884, also in Graves County, KY, and was the sixth child of five brothers and four sisters, whose father was Addison Josephus Elliott and mother was Nancy Jane "Nannie" Lisenby Elliott. Both of Mama's parents were from Stewart County, TN
Mama and Papa got married on November 22, 1905 in Mama's home in Lowes, Ballard County, KY. At the birth of their first son in 1907, they lived in Lovelaceville, McCracken Co., KY. Then by the time their next child was born, they had moved to Lone Oak, McCracken, Co, KY

Papa's mother died in 1925 in Penny's Corner, Graves County, KY. 
His
father lived to be 94 years old and died in 1935, also in Graves County,
