C. W. Meriweather

Clayborn W. Meriweather, Hopkinsville attorney, poet and painter, was born in Christian Co., May 7, 1869. He entered the practice of law in 1908 after receiving his education in Louisville, and practiced until his death. His wife, Mrs. Rosa Merriweather, was for many years a teacher at Booker T. Washington School.

Mr. Merriweather was a recognized Kentucky poet, many of his poems were published in the local press. He published a dozen small volumes of prose and verse. Among the better known were: “The Pleasures of Life,” 1931, “Goober Press,” 1932, “Lights and Shadows,” “The Voice of the Soul,” “The Voice of Beauty,” and “Sun Flowers,” 1938. His water-colors and oil paintings received praise from many sources.

C.W. Merriweather died in Hopkinsville, Feb. 16, 1952, and is buried in Cave Spring Cemetery.
