Archives and History. The present owner is unknown.
John Marks was born January
13, 1773, in Elbert County, Georgia. He married Susan Tompkins, born 1775 in
Elbert County sometime after 1790. He and his family moved to Montgomery County
in August 1817. He bought land all over Montgomery County. Mr. Marks died in
Montgomery County before October 12, 1827, leaving a will that named his wife
Susan and their five children. Their son, Nicholas Meriwether Marks, married
Ann Paul Mathews in 1806. He died in September 1847. The 1850 Montgomery County
census shows Ann P. Marks as head of household, age 60, born in Georgia; with
her were Samuel (28), Mariah (33) all born in Georgia, and Nicholas M. (5),
Rebecca (3), and William 2/12.
