Heirs
Realize $15,950; Will Be Divided Between About Heirs
Confirmation of the
commissioner's sale of 660 acres of land in Montgomery county, the estate of
Miss Lucy Meriwether, for $15,950 had been made by Judge Leon McCord in the
circuit court in equity recently. The land lies in township 15, range 20. Should
there be no appeal, many heirs are to receive portions of the money, some as
little as 1/126th each. There are approximately 35 heirs.
The land was
sold by Harris Gunter, as commissioner, on December 17. It embraces what is said
to be some fine farm sites. It is understood that the sale was confirmed
notwithstanding at least one of the parties at interest moved to set it aside,
claiming the land should have brought a much larger return, even going to far as
to guarantee the others at interest that such would be the case. Others
interested objected.
Divisions of the sum, after costs have been
deducted, according to the decree of sale made by Judge William Logan Martin,
are as stated below:
Mrs. William Misselhorn, 1/7; Lucy R. Hardt, Anna
Dansby, 1/14 each; James DeYampert, Lou DeYampert, Rebecca Taylor, 1/21 each; H.
M. Meriwether, Lucy Meriwether, Carrie Meriwether, Cornelia Meriwether, 1/28
each; Charles Meriwether, Nicholas Meriwether, Johnnie Alexander, Will
Meriwether, 1/35 each; J. M. Meriwether, Eugene Meriwether, Edgar Meriwether,
William Meriwether, 1/42 each; David S. Taylor, Rose T. DeYampert, Sam Taylor,
William Taylor, Dave Taylor, Joe Taylor, James Taylor, 1/56 each; Enola M.
Griswold, Mary M. Edwards, 1/70 each; Lillian Adams, Rebecca Neal, 1/84 each;
two children of Gertrude Taylor, deceased, whereabouts not known, each 1/112;
Myrtle Cleveland, Jack Mills, Julia Mills, 1/126 each.
