Background:
The following is transcribed from a
Bible given to Mary Ann Nall (nee Unthank) & formerly Tippett) by her
husband, Robert C. Nall, on March 7, 1860. At the time, Mr. & Mrs.
Nall were residents of Lake Co, Tennessee. Mary Ann Nall (nee Unthank)
had as her first husband the Rev. Hillary H. Tippett, who died in 1857.
Robert C. Nall’s first wife was Polly Ann Easterwood, who died in 1856.
Robert C. Nall’s second wife was Drusilla Almiranda Whitaker. They
married in 1857. Robert C. Nall’s third wife was Mary Ann Tippett.
They married in 1859. There are no children listed from Nall’s second
& third marriages. (Note: they had 1 child, Mesna Nall)
When Mary Ann Nall died in 1878 at age 59, the Bible was passed on to her daughter, Sarah (Sallie) Ellen Tippett Meriwether, [TMSI #7049], who made the entries after her mother’s death. Sallie & her husband, William Winston Meriwether, moved to Paragould, Arkansas in 1883 with their two children, Robert & Ida. When Sallie Meriwether died in 1897, the Bible was kept by her daughter, Ida Meriwether Bandy, in Paragould until her death in 1962. In 1996 it was in the possession of Mary Ann Unthank Tippett Nall’s great-grandson, Robert W. Meriwether of Conway, Arkansas and was later given to the Lake Co, TN Historical Society.
