THE KESLER FAMILY

Third Generation in Germany

First Generation in America

4. JOHANN ADOLPH KESSLER1 (Georg Philip, Theiss), son of Georg Philip and Maria Anna (Schmid) Kessler, was born about 1699. He was baptized on 8 Oct 1699 at Westerburg, now Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany [Westerburg Church Book I]. He died after 1 Dec 1754.

Johann Adolph married Johanna Christina Stepping on 6 Oct 1717 at Westerburg, now Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany [Westerburg Church Book II: The marriage record states Johann Adolph Kesler married Christoph Stepping's daughter, but does not give her name]. Johanna, daughter of Christopher Stepping, was baptized on 22 Jul 1696 at Westerburg, now Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany [Westerburg Church Book I].

Johann Adolph may have immigranted with his son John Philip to Pennsylvania, on the ship Two Brothers from Rotterdam. The ship landed at Philadelphia. The immigrants were qualified on 28 Sep 1753. This Johann Adolph was probably sponsor of his grandson Johann Adolph Kessler, who was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, PA 1 Dec 1754.

5. JOHANN PHILIP KESLER2 (Johann Adolph1, Georg Philip, Theiss), son of Johann Adolph and Johanna Christina (Stepping) Kessler, was born about the year 1721. He was baptized on 7 Apr 1721 at Westerburg, now in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany [Westerburg Church Book II]. Johann Philip died before Pentecost 1771 when his son Mathias was confirmed at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Manheim, Lancaster Co., PA.

Johann Philip married Albertina Christina Olgart on 4 Feb 1744 at Westerburg. Albertina, daughter of Georg Wilhelm and Sophia (Craemer) Olgart, was born about the year 1723. She was baptized on 18 May 1723 at Westerburg [Westerburg Church Book II].

He appears to have emigrated from Westerburg to Pennsylvania in 1753. He is probably the Johann Philip Kesseler who arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship Two Brothers from Rotterdam via Portsmith. Another passenger aboard the ship was Johann Adolf Kesseler, who was probably his father. The persons on this ship were qualified 28 Sep 1753. Johann Philip next appears as a sponsor for Maria Catharina Ferrier, who was baptized on 20 Jan 1754, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, PA.

He married Anna Christina Horn on 18 Jun 1750 at Westerburg [Westerburg Church Book II].  It appears that Christina, daughter of Johann Adam and Anna Juliana (Knod) Horn, was born on 5 Sep 1727 at Westerburg [Westerburg Church Book II].  She died on 25 Mar 1791 at Westerburg [Westerburg Church Book III].

In the Feb 1760 enumeration of persons living in Westerburg David was living in the lower town.  He had one son and two daughters and his occupation was shoemaker.
