He was a teacher at Blanchester OH from 1911-12; Principal, Nelsonville, OH 1912-13; Principal Ashabula OH 1913-16; Principal, High School, Hamilton OH 1916 to at least 1922. He was a farmer at Martinsville OH. Member NEA; Harvard Club, Cincinati: School Masters' Club, Cincinnati: American Historical Association; Rotary Club; Phi Beta Kappa, Haverford, 1920; Committee of North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. b. From the Daily News-Journal of Wilmington, Ohio Jan 21, 1956, p. 10 Lloyd Townsend Dies in Florida Was Prominent in Farming, Business Lloyd M. Townsend, 70, prominent retired farmer and businessman, died Thursday night at Clearwater, Fla., where he and Mrs. Townsend had gone to spend the winter. He had been in failing health for several months. Born in Martinsville, Mr. Townsend was active in the business and community affairs for many years but had retired to Wilmington and resided at 628 North South street. He was formerly a banker in Martinsville and was engaged in farming for some years in the Morrisville neighborhood and was deputy collector of internal revenue in Dayton, Washington C.H., and Wilmington. Mr. Townsend was actively interested in the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Blue Lodge at Martinsville, Valley of Dayton Consistory Scottish Rite, Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus, CLinton County Shrine Club and Clinton County Scottish Rite Club. The son of Orland and Mary Esther Leaf Townsend, he was born June 16, 1885 and was married to Miss Ada Noftsger in 1912. In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son, Wayne L. Townsend of South Charleston; one daughter, Mrs. Harriett Snidler of Bishopville, SC and three grand- children. The daughter and her husband, E.S. Snidler, were called to Clearwater when his condition became serious and arrive Thursday afternoon. Funeral Services will be held at Reynold Funeral Home, in charge of Rev. Kenneth Santee, and interment will be in the Martinsville cemetery. ---- From the Lloyd Townsend Memoir, by Dusty Miller. One could not know Lloyd Townsend without appreciating his keen mind and almost infallibly good memory. He was quiet and reserved in manner, yet he had a very quick wit and fine sence of humor. The kindliness of his personality, apparent in his way of speaking, was confirmed in his kindness to his family and the thoughtfulness of their welfare. He had many friends because he, himself, was a friend.
