Notes from Naomi Jane Robinson Hickman Russi (granddaughter): Had a prosperous store near Parkersburg with brother. He was extremely handsome. He was engaged to marry a beautiful, wealthy Parkrsburg girl, Nancy. She became sick and died 6 months before the wedding. Died when he was 53 from cancer of the mouth - supposedly from constant nervous biting of the lip. Buried at Robinson cemetery near the old homeplace on Poco River, Kanawha County, WV opposite of where Island Branch comes in. On Tombstone: A light is from our household gone A voice loved is still A place is vacant at our home That never can be filled Co.A. 15th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry Hero in Civil War for the Union. He received a handsome pension for his military service which made his family better off than the neighbors. He joined the army at 16 as a drummer and ended up as a captain. ======= From Laidley's "History of Charleston and Kanawha County, Wst Virginia" pp 740-741: (George Robinson) enlisted at the age of 16 in Co.A., 15th W.Va. Infantry and was seriously wounded at Lynchburg, Va. He was honorably discharged at Wheeling and then located as a merchant at Parkersburg and after marriage lived until November, 1883 at Claysville, seven miles above the former place. He then removed to Hiccombottom Branch Creek, where he cleared and improved a large part of 300 acres of land, moving from there to a farm of 140 acres on Poca river and from there to the farm now owned by his son, H.E (Harry) Robinson, which then contained 116 acres. He was not a farmer in his later years, engaging other to look after his agricultural work. He was a republican in his political views. He served as a member of the school board in the Poca district, as constable and as a notary public. He was a man of sterling character and was a class leader in the Christian Advent church. ======== From "Declaration for Pension", 5/23/1867: George Robinson enlisted in the 15h W.Va. Inf on 9/8/1862 Honorably discharged: 6/16/1865 wounded 6/18/1864 at Lynchburg, Va. He received a gunshot wound in his right thigh by which the main tendon or tendons of said limb were severed, from which that the same has been permanently injured and partially paralyzed.

Notes:

She was 4' 11" tall and wore a size 2 1/2 shoe and had a temper. Always prim and neatly dressed in black alpaca with a white starched ruffle collar and cameo. After her husband George's death, an old beau from her youth returned to court her. She was lonely and enjoyed his company but son Mont drove him away. She died of blood poisoning from a prick in her finger while quilting.

He was blond and blue-eyed. ===== From Laidley's "History of Charleston and Kanawha County" pp. 740-741: H.E. Robinson, who resides on his valuable farm of 111 acres which is situated on Poca river in Poca district, is a member of one of the well known and substantial families of this county. He was educated at Charleston and at Lebanon, Ohio. After marriage he located at Charleston and there conducted a store and also the Hotel St. Albert, the Hotel Robinson and the Commericial Hotel. After selling his hotel interests he became a commercial traveler and afterwards was manager for the Maytown Lumber Company of Hacker Valley.
