Notes:

Samuel Given was born in County Antrim Ireland in 1680 and died in Orange County VA 1n 1740. He married Sarah Cathay in Ireland in 1718. The family came to Orange County VA in 1738 and a deed in Deed Book III, page 13, in Orange County VA records the transfer of 311 acres of land known as "Beverly Manor" from William Beverly to Samuel Givens on September 28, 1738. Samuel appeared in Orange County Court February 28, 1739, to swear that he had imported himself, his wife and nine children from Ireland to Philadelphia and thence to Orange County VA at his own expense. This affidavit was necessary for him to hold property. Samuel's will was dated October 22, 1740 and is recorded in Will Book I, Orange County Va. The will was probated May 28, 1741.
