Obituary from the Daily News-Journal of Wilmington, Ohio. Feb 28, 1938 Death loves a shining mark, a signal blow. Thus Robert Gerard Townsend, the youngest son of Lloyd M. and Ada Noftsger Townsend was born in Martinsville, Ohio, July 16th, 1917 and passed into the Great Beyond through the Gateway of death February 28, 1938, at the age of 20 years, seven months and 12 days. His childhood was spent in the town of his birth, graduating from Martinsville High School in 1935. He was energetic and active and was one on the team who helped bring honors in athletics to his school. He was a sophomore at Wilmington College and continued an active interest in athletics there. His rank as a student was good and his amiable disposition won him friends in college as well as in his home school. His college fraternity being Sigma Zeta. His historical background is well known in this community. The family names of Townsend and Noftsger being long established before his generation. In his immediate family there survive him his father and mother, two older brothers and a younger sister.
