|   | birt: 20 FEB 1831 plac: Elk River deat: 22 NOV 1907 plac: Webster Springs, West Virginia|Friday, November 29,1907|CURRENCE GREGORY DEAD||The many friends of this good man were shocked last Saturday evening|to learn|that he was dead. About five o'clock as he was returning to the home|of his|son. I.N. Gregory, in North Webster Springs, with whom he was making|his home,|after a trip over into the town, he was seen to halt suddenly, then|sink to|the ground. Assistance reached him immediately, and he was carried to|the house,|where he breathed his last within a few minutes, the cause being given|by|physicians as heart failure. While it had been noticeable for some|months that he|was growing feeble, he was yet a wonderfully well preserved man and|his death|came as a great surprise.||Monday morning at 11:00 o'clock the remains were laid to rest beside|those of|his beloved wife in the burying ground near the old home about five|miles up|Elk River, in the presence of an immense gathering of sorrowing|relatives and|friends. The service was conducted by the Reverand C.J. Price.|Currence|Gregory was born February 20, 1831, and was therefore aged seventy-six|years, nine|months and three days. He was a son of Adam Gregory, and is survived|by a|sister, Mrs. Mattie Baughman, now about eighty years of age, and two|half-brothers,|Harmon and William H. Gregory. In 1852 he was married to Harriett|Payne, and|to this union were born thirteen sons and one daugher: Hinkle, John,|David,|Jesse, Benjamin, George, William, Peter, Isaac, Theodore, Alfred,|Shepherd,|(deceased), Isaiah and Nancy, now Mrs. David B. Cogar. In this large|family, among|whom are left are some of our most esteemed citizens, he has left a|monument|which will do more than stately marble to cause him to be remembered|by the|present and known to coming generations. He was born on Elk River near|Webster|Springs and spent his entire life near the place of his birth, and|with him|died much of the early history of the section. Known far and near as a|just and|upright citizen, honorable in all his dealings, he was held in the|highest|esteem and his friends numbered the entire population.| marr: |   | |||||
