Notes:

Christiern Hansson Steelman followed his brother John to New Castle County. By 1708 he was the second husband of Mary Cann, a Quaker, widow of James Claypoole, Jr. Thereafter, until at least 1737, Christiern was an active communicant at Holy Trinity Church. Children, if any, are unknown.

Charles Hansson Steelman, born 1679, married Anna, daughter of Anthony Nilsson, c. 1702. He died six years later at Senamensing in Burlington County, NJ, survived by one son and two daughters, all of whom moved to New Castle County.

Will of John Butcher; Philadelphia Co. Will Book C, p. 57, Case No. 47; LDS Microfilm 0021722 (page numbers not visible on microfilm, but case number is in margin) In the name of God Amen - I John Butcher of the Manor of Moorland and County of Philadelphia and Province of Pensilvania Yeoman being very sick & weak in Body but of perfect Mind & Memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling to mind the Morta of my Body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die Do make this my last will & Testament - That is to say Principally and first of all I give & Recommend my Soul unto the Hands of God that gave it And for my Body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian likes decent manner at the discretion of my Executor Nothing doubting, but at the last day or General Resurrection I shall receive the Same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give devise & bequeath as followeth - Imp. I will that all my just and lawfull Debts be honestly paid by my Executor. Then I will that my funeral charges be honestly paid by my Executor. Then I will that Hanah Butcher my Dear & Loveing wife be my Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament and I do appoint Samuel Jones & Henry Stirke(?) of the s'd County Yeoman Men my Trustees for to Assist my s'd wife in her Executorship that to Set out my Plantation till My Son John Comes to Twenty one years of age to Set it out as followeth. (viz; I will that those that take it not make any waste of Timber upon my Land, not to clear above eight acres of my said Land without ffencs. and that Land that is within ffencs they may clear all the Land between the ffield called the 13 acre fie the old ffield and no more (And the who takes the s'd place be - otherwyes must Summer ffallow the Land Always before they Sow it So it will but be sowed every other year and I will that They that takes it to have with it four Cowes four working Horses & mares with plows & Cart and their tackling and they to be valued by Honest men and They to delive good as they are at entring at the capitation that is when my Son John comes to the age afores'd then the s'd Plantation that I live on and those things above said to be delivered to the said John Butcher My Son To him & his Heirs and Assigns for ever. And my said Executor Hanah Butcher to have the use of the said plaes for to bring up my children upon so long as She keeps herself unmarried. But when she marrys again for she to turn off with one third of my personal Estate. And for the two thirds of my Estate for my said Trustees to take care of it all for the use of my Children to the best advantage of them. Then I will and Bequeath unto my eldest Son John Butcher two hundred and thirty Seven acres of Land with my dwelling house & plantation & all other the Improvements upon the Same and all other things before menconed, that is to be set out with the plantation unto him & his Heirs and Assigns for ever And to enter to it And the things Delivered or as good as they are when he comes to the said 21 years of age. And I give to my son John one Mare her Colour is Sorrel three years old with a halfpenny in each Ear in the back part of them a white Blaze down the face. I give her to him now And he to have the use of her & the keeping upon the plantation the said place is where I now live on. Then I will and bequeath unto my Son Samuel Butcher three hundred and fifty acres of Land now upon the said Mannor with all the Improvements and appurtenances upon the same at Buntington, to him & his Heirs and Assigns for ever & to enter to the Sa when he comes to twenty one years of age. Then I will and bequeath unto Mary Butcher my eldest Daughter two hundred acres of Land at Egg Harbour, but the said 200 acres must be Sold by my Executor & Trustees with all Speed and the money for it is to be put into Interest for the use of my said Daughter and to be paid to her when she Attains to eighteen years of age or when she is married. Then I will and bequeath unto Sarah Butcher my Daughter fourty pounds in Currant Silver mony of Pensilvania to her & her heirs and Assigns for ever to be paid to her when she Attains to Eighteen Years of age or married. Then I will that my Negro man be sold And the mony to be put out to Interest for the use of my children that is for the use of my Daughter Sarah but if the s'd mony amount to more nor Mary hath from the Land the over plus to be equally divided to t both. Then I will that neither my Executor nor Trustees nor any other person charge any thing for the bringing up of my Children but that their Estates I have given them may be clear to them for ever. Also I will and bequeath unto Alexander Quee & Mary Parker that are in Election to be married when they are married I give to them one Mare called Tib. I do revoak all former Wills to be void and of none Effect and make this my last. In Witness hereof I have Set to my hand and Seal the twenty fifth day of June and the Sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady Queen Anne over England Ye Annoq Dom 1707. [NB: The marks were copied by the clerk; John Butcher's mark was the letters JB] Endorsement Philad'a July 10th 1707. Then personally appeared Robert Mecgee and Alexander Quee, Two of the Witnesses to the within written will & on their Solemn Oaths did declare they Saw the within named John Butcher the Testator Sign Seal publish & Declare within writing to be his last Will & Testament. And that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind memory & understanding to the best of their knowledge. Coram Pet(?) Evans D. Reg'r. Be it Remembered that ye 10th day of July 1707 The Last Will & Testament of John Butcher was proven in due form of Law, probat & Letters of Administration was granted to Hannah Butcher, Solo Executrix in the said Will named being first Attested wel truely to Administer & to bring an Inventory of the Dece'ds Estate into the Reg'rs Offies at Philad'a on or before the 10th Aug next & also to render Acc't when required Given under the Seal of the said Offies - Pet Evans D. Reg'r.
