Lighthall, Harry J.

Oneida - Harry Lighthall Sr., 76, 248 Mott St., formerly self-employed in the plumbing and heating business, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1980, in Rome Hospital after a long illness.

Born on March 24, 1904, in Pulaski, he was the son of Esick and Bertha Look Lighthall. He married Zadie Streun Sep. 13, 1928, in Factoryville, Pa. He moved to Oneida from Rome in 1940. He had been employed by Mastercraft in Oneida.

Mr. Lighthall was a Methodist.

Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marie) Winchell, Oneida, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Drake, Rome, Mrs. Lewis (Frances) Joslyn, Sylvan Beach, and Mrs. Richard (Geraldine) Bowman, with whom he resided, a step-daughter, Mrs. George (Gladys) Joslyn, Oneida, a son Harry Lighthall Jr., Oneida, 47 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday with burial in West Verona Cemetery.


Lighthall, Harry J. Jr.

Oneida - Harry J. Lighthall Jr., 43, of Sweatman Avenue, a maintenance worker at Smith-Lee Corp., was pronounced dead at Oneida City Hospital Friday Nov. 28, 1980, after being stricken at his home.

Born on April 1, 1937, in Rome, he was the son of Harry J. and Zadie Streun Lighthall Sr. He had been employed by Smith-Lee for more than 12 years. he was a member of the Oneida Moose Lodge and a former member of the Oneida Owl's nest.

On Feb. 13, 1968, in Oneida, he married the former Gail Lighthall.

Surviving besides his wife and mother are five sons, Virgil Lighthall, Harry J. Lighthall III, George Lighthall, and William Lighthall, all of Canastota, and Milton Lighthall II, at home, four daughters, Virginia Lighthall and Judy Lighthall, both of Canastota, and Lisa Lighthall and Gail Lighthall, both at home, five sisters, Mrs. George (Gladys) Joslyn, Mrs. Robert (Marie) WInchell and Mrs. Richard (Geraldine) Bowman, all of Oneida, Mrs. Louis (Frances) Joslyn of Sylvan Beach, and Mrs. robert (Dorothy) Drake of Rome, and a grandson.

Services will be held Monday with burial in Valley View Cemetery, Oneida.


Lighthall, Zadie Streun

Mrs. Zadie C. Lighthall, 79, of 248 Mott St., a nurse's aide at the Canastota Nursing Home before retiring in 1967, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1981, in Rome Hospital after a long illness. Born of Feb. 9, 1902, in Taberg, she was the daughter of J. Frederick and Inez Cook Streun. On Sept. 13, 1928, she was married to Harry Lighthall Sr. in Factoryville, Pa. He died Oct. 3, 1980. Mrs. Lighthall moved to Oneida 40 years ago from Rome. She was a Methodist. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. George (Gladys) Joslyn, Mrs. Robert (Marie) Winchell, Mrs. Lewis (Frances) Joslyn, and Mrs. Richard (Geraldine) Bowman, all of Oneida, and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Drake, Rome, a brother, Kenneth Streun, Rome, 45 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. A son, Harry Lighthall Jr. died Nov. 28, 1980. Services will be held at 11 am Monday at the Strong Funeral Home, Rome, with burial in West Verona Cemetery.


Link, Ellsworth Harlow

Blossvale - E. Harlow Link, 88, of Main Street, a founder and past president of Blubar Oil Co., died Friday, Dec. 28, 1979, at his home. He was in failing health the past 10 years.

Born on Oct. 4, 1891, in Taberg, he was the son of Ellsworth J. and Arabella Cook Link. On Jan. 15, 1919, in Rome, he married Mildred Rowell. The couple lived in Blossvale since 1919.

He retired from Blubar Oil in 1969. Previously he operated a country store in Blossvale. He was educated in Blossvale and Rome schools and attended Utica School of Commerce.

He was a member of the Blossvale Union Chapel and an honorary member of the Blossvale Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 50 year member of the Vienna Masonic Lodge and was a former councilman in the Town of Annsville.

Mr. Link was also chairman of the Liberty Bond Drive during World War I in his area. He was active in the Boy Scouts for many years and was a trustee of his church and the Annsville Cemetery Association.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Willard (Elizabeth) Prince of Concord, Mass., a son, James E. Link of Blossvale, a sister, Mrs. Harry (Gladys) Harden of McConnellsville, and five grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Taberg.


Link, Ellsworth J.

Blossvale - Ellsworth J. Link, well known and highly respected merchant, passed away in Faxton Hospital, Utica, Friday morning at 2 o'clock, after an illness of one week with peritonitis.

Ellsworth J. Link was born in the town of Trenton on August 12, 1861, son of the late Ira and Harriet Brundage Link. In 1889 he moved to Taberg, where he worked for W. J. Lasher. A few years later he came to Blossvale, where he worked for John Halstead. he was manager of the I. J. White store in 1904, which he had since conducted. His son, E. Harlow Link, has been associated with his father in business since 1919.

Mr. Link was a member of the Taberg M. E. Church and of the Masonic Lodge. He was a Republican in politics and had attended state conventions as delegate for the party.

In 1890 he was united in marriage with Miss Arabella Cook. Surviving are his wife, daughter, Mrs Harry Harden, of McConnellsville, and son, E. Harlow, of Blossvale, a sister, Mrs. Emma Sanford, of Remsen, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from his late home. Interment will be made at Taberg Cemetery.


Link, Mildred R. Rowell

Blossvale - Mrs. Mildred R. Link, 90, formerly of Main Street, a former area chairwoman of the American Red Cross, died Wednesday, March 25, 1987, in the ROme Nursing Home where she had been a patient since September 1983.

Born in Camden on Jan. 10, 1897, she was the daughter of Warren H. and ALice E. Morrison Rowell.

She was educated in Camden schools. She lived in Blossvale since 1919. She married Ellsworth Harlow Link in Rome on Jan. 15, 1919. He died September 28, 1979.

Mrs. Link was a charter member and past president of the McConnellsville Garden Club, a member of the Blossvale Home Bureau, Floral Arts, which is a state organization of garden clubs, the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, and a trustee of the Blossvale Union Chapel and the Annsville Cemetery Association.

Mrs. Link was also a member of the Vienna chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Willard (Elizabeth) Prince, Concord, Mass, a son, James E. Link, Blossvale, and five grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.


Louer, Samuel A.

December 15, 1922

Lee - Samuel Adelbert Louer, aged 62 years and a life-long resident of the town of Lee, died on Thursday afternoon at his home near the Fish Creek dam where he had resided for the past seven years. He had been in poor health for the past four years. Mr. Louer was a farmer and had spent the greater part of his life in this occupation. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Taberg and was well known in that vicinity. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Harrison and Harold, at home, one daughter, Mrs. Gaylord Sweatman of Churchville, and one sister, Mrs. Cornelius Jones of Rome.
