David A. Washburn, 82, Rome Trust Company janitor for 20 years before his retirement, died at his home at 423 W. Willett St., at 3 pm yesterday following a long period of ill health.

Mr. Washburn was born in Lewis County April 25, 1858, the son of Sylvester and Rebecca O'Dell Washburn. He came to Rome 30 years ago after being engaged in farming in Taberg.

In that village on June 31, 1889, he married the former Miss Mary A. Cook in the parsonage of the Methodist Church, the Rev. Mr. Northrup officiating. They observed their golden wedding anniversary last year.

Mr. Washburn became janitor of the local banking house after seven years employment with the former Jackson Company, and he held that position until ill health forced his retirement Jan. 25, 1939.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Rome Maccabees.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one brother, Edgar M. Washburn, Rome, and several nieces and nephews.

Washburn, Mary A. Cook

Mrs. Mary A. Washburn, 94, who made her home at the Frank A. Clark residence, 741 Camp St., died this morning in a Rome hospital after a long illness.

She was born June 23, 1869, in the Town of Lee, daughter of Elisha and Caroline Youngs Cook, and was married to David Washburn. He died in 1940.

Mrs. Washburn, who had lived here her entire life, was a member of First Baptist Church.

She leaves a niece, Mrs. Marguerite June, Liverpool, and a nephew, Charles Washburn, Utica.

Funeral services will be held Friday. Interment will be in Rome Cemetery.

Waterman, Elwin E.

Elwin E. (Dutch) Waterman Sr., age 65, of 3467 Mill Road, Blossvale, NY, died January 25, 1997 at Rome Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born August 31, 1931 in Camden, the son of Leslie and Lula Fox Waterman. mr. Waterman attended Camden schools. He married Beatrice Sweatman in 1949 in Verona. On March 21, 1971, he married Rose Mary Fielder Secor in Taberg.

Mr. Waterman was employed by Triple C Construction Co. over 25 years, retiring in 1971 due to ill health. he also owned and operated a small engine repair shop for over 25 years.

He

was an active member of the New London Volunteer Fire department where he served as fire chief and a former member of the Taberg Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving besides his wife are his father, Leslie Waterman, Oneida, one daughter, Donna Gauthier, Camden, four sons, Elwin Waterman Jr., Verona, Robert Waterman, Blossvale, David Waterman and James Waterman, both of Taberg, two step-daughters, Mrs. Charles (Patty) Kuegler, Camden, Mrs. George (Mary) Harp, Taberg, one stepson and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jackie Secor Jr., Taberg, two sisters, Mrs. Butch (Marie) Bielby, Taberg, Mrs. Beverly Gerard, McConnellsville, three brothers, Ernest Waterman, Clayton Miller and Carl Miller, all of Blossvale, sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday. Interment in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Winchell, Robert G.

Vernon - Robert G. Winchell, 18, of Sweatman Road, Oneida, was killed in a one car crash about 1:40 pm Tuesday on Route 5 east of Vernon.

Two Rome brothers, Lewis Joslyn Jr., 19, of Hogsback Road, drived of the demolished 1967 station wagon, and Timothy Joslyn, 14, were injured when the west bound auto left the highway and struck a tree.

Lewis Joslyn, Jr., a serviceman, was listed in satisfactory condition this morning by officials at Griffiss AFB hospital. A spokesman at Oneida City Hospital reported Timothy to be in good condition.

According to State Police, the car ascended a slight grade where the road narrows just west of Lampman Road, went off the right shoulder and struck a tree.

Oneida County Cornoner, Thomas A. Cox, said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:15 pm as a result of multiple injuries.

Troopers J. M. Wayland Smith and R. M. Cardinalli of the Oneida Barracks investigated.

Robert G. Winchell was born on July 27, 1955 in Rome, a son of Robert & Marie Lighthall Winchell. He lived in oneida most of his life and attended Oneida public schools.

Mr. Winchell attended the Methodist Church and was awaiting induction into the Marines.

Besides his parent, he is survived by four brothers, Otto, Scott, Thomas and Marty, all at home, six sisters, Mrs. Donald (Marie) Morris, Oneida, and Lola, Terri, Susan, Brenda and Martha all at home, and his maternal grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Harry Lighthall, Oneida.

Services will be held Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Wood, Lillian V. Cook

Mrs. Lillian V. Wood, 85, of 622 W. Thomas Street, died Friday, July 15, 1983, in Rome Hospital after a brief illness.

Born June 15, 1898, in Amboy, she was the daughter of Ezra and Stella Sellman Cook. On Feb. 14, 1920, she was married to McKinley L. Wood in Syracuse.

She lived in Rome since her childhood and had formerly been employed by the Rome Knitting Mills, Oneida Ltd., and Rome Cable Corp.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edna E. Combs of ROme, and Mrs. Bernadine Kilfoil of Phoenix, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held Sunday with burial in Rome Cemetery.

Wood, McKinley L.

McKinley L. Wood, 93, of 622 W. Thomas St., a former Revere employee, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 1990, in Rome Hospital after being stricken at home.

Born Jan. 28, 1897, in Ava, he was a son of Lincoln and Alice Capron Wood. He married Lillian V. Cook Feb. 14, 1920, in Syracuse. She died July 15, 1983.

Mr. Wood was employed at Revere Copper and Brass Inc. as a draftsman for 30 years, retiring in 1962. Prior to that he was employed at Oneida Limited and General Cable Corp. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edna E. Combs, Rome, and Mrs. Bernadine Kilfoil, Phoenix, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
