Finley, Dorothy Flagg

Dorothy F. Finley, age 100, formerly of Schuyler Street, passed away November 8, 2005, at Bethany Gardens.
She was born September 27, 1905, in Rome, a daughter of Emory and Cecelia O'Connor Flagg, and graduated from the Academy of Holy Names. Dorothy was united in marriage to John F. Finley on September 11, 1937, at St. Peters Church; he died June 19, 1997. She formerly worked for the Kent Company and later was the office manager at the Gordon Carley Company. She was a member of St. Paul's Church and its Altar Society.
Dorothy is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Agnes Irish and Florence Waller.
Funeral services will be held Friday from the Barry Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery.
Finley, John F.

John F. Finley, 95, of 1205 Schuyler Street, passed away Thursday, June 19, 1997, in the Bethany House after a long illness.
He was born January 22, 1902 in Rome, NY, a son of James H. & Katherine Sylvah Finley. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy.
John was united in marriage to the former Dorothy F. Flagg on September 11, 1937, in St. Peters Church. He had been an inspector at Revere Copper and Brass for 37 years, retiring in 1967. He was a member of St. Paul's Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Emily Outtrim, who died September 3, 1993, and a brother, Thomas W. Finley who died September 6, 1993.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 am from Barry Funeral Home. Interment in St. Peters Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
Flagg, Celia M. O'Connor

Mrs. Celia M. Flagg, 97, of 515 E. Garden St., died Monday at Rome Parkway Nursing Home following a long illness.
Born Nov. 28, 1880, in the town of Lee, she was the daughter of Daniel and Bridget Conners O'Connor. On Jan. 12, 1898 she was married to Emory G. Flagg in St. Peters Church. Mr. Flagg died Jan. 22, 1945.
Educated in Rome schools, she was a member of St. Peters Church, honorary member of its Altar Rosary Society and former member of its Welfare Society. She was also a former member of the Auxilliary of Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robert A. (Agnes) Irish, with whom she lived, and Mrs. Lawrence A. (Florence) Waller and Mrs. John (Dorothy) Finley, both of Rome, a brother Daniel O'Connor, Rome, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery.

Annsville - Charles W. Flagg, after a short but painful illness, expired at his residence on Saturday last. His funeral will be held under the auspices of the fire department, of which he was an active and useful member, on Tuesday at 2 o'clock pm at the M. E. Church.
Flagg, Emory
Emory G. Flagg, 69, a former grocer and retired machine operator, died of a heart attack yesterday in his home, 1205 Schuyler St. While he retired as a machine operator in the rubber cover department of General Cable Corp. three years ago because of a heart condition, he managed to be about his home daily. Mr. Flagg previously operated a grocery store at Thomas and Jay St., for many years. Born Sept. 11, 1875, in the town of Annsville, a son of Charles and Harriet Crossman Flagg, he had lived in this city for 48 years. On Jan 12, 1898 he married Miss Celia O'Connor in St. Peter's Church. The Rev. Aloysius Murphy, then pastor, officiated. Besides his wife he leaves three daughters and a son, Mrs. Rober Irish, Mrs. Lawrence Waller, and Mrs. John Finley, Rome, and Emerson Flagg, Blair Neb.

Mrs. Harriet M. Flagg, aged 75 years, formerly of Rome, died at 2 o'clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frances Kemerline, 9 Hart Street, Utica. She had been in ill health for the past ten years, suffering from tumor of the stomach, and had been confined to her bed for the past two weeks. Mrs. Flagg was born in Annsville in 1837, and her maiden name was Harriet Crossman. Her husband, Charles Flagg, died about 36 years ago. Since the death of her husband she had been living with her children. She resided in Rome for 10 years with her son, Emery G. Flagg, 532 William Street, and four years ago went to Utica to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Baptist Church of this city. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jose Vedder of Rochester and Mrs. Frances Kemerline of Utica, one son, Emery G. Flagg of Rome, three brothers, John and Eugene Crossman of Rome, and Norris Crossman of Lowell, two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Stratton of Rome and Mrs. Josephine Hess of Utica and six grandchildren.
