Durr, Joseph A.

Joseph A. Durr, 27 Kernan Ave., who had been in the meat business on Columbia Square for 53 years, died February 12, 1947 in St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness. He was born July 4, 1866 in Pymar, Germany, a son of the late Casper and Katherine Durr, and came to this country at the age of 16. Mr. Durr had been a butcher since his young manhood, and was for 46 years a partner with Anthony Hillebrand in the Durr and Hillebrand Market, 1012 Columbia. He retired two years ago. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its Mens Club. Mr. Durr married Mrs. Margaret Lane here Dec. 6, 1915, who survives, together with one son, Alfred J. Durr, Watsonville, Calif., one daughter, Mrs. Anna Marcy, Santa Barbara, Calif.; four stepchildren, Mrs. J. W. Frappier, Mrs. Samuel Christensen, both of Whitesboro, Mrs. Daniel O'Brien, Utica, and Harold J.Lane, Harrisburg, Pa., and a sister, Mrs. Ida Kelley, Utica. The funeral will be private Saturday from the John S. Friedel Funeral Home, 1123 Court St.
