West Branch - Charles E. Worden, 62, who lived on Route 26, West Branch, a retired Oneida Container Company employee, died at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Syracuse on February 17, 1992, after an extended illness.

Born in West Branch on April 23, 1929, Mr. Worden was a son of Chester and Doris Houser Worden. He spent his young life in West Branch, where he attended school before going to high school in West Leyden. He entered the U. S. Army in June 1946 and was stationed in Japan and Europe before serving in the Korean Conflict. After being discharged from the Army he was employed on the high voltage lines at Griffiss Air Base. He was last employed as a tractor trailer driver for Oneida Container Company of Verona. He retired in 1973 because of failing health.

Mr. Worden was a former member of Ava United Methodist Church.

Besides his mother, who lives in Rome, survivors include a son, William C. Worden of McConnellsvile, a daughter, Debra L. Weeden, Liverpool, two grandchildren and one brother, Donald L. Worden of Clark Mills. He was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Esther Worden who died on June 19, 1983. A brother, Ronald W. Worden, died in 1986 and a brother, Chester A. Worden Jr. died in 1991.

Interment will be made in Friends Cemetery, West Branch.


Worden, Chester A. Jr.

West Branch - Chester A. Worden Jr., 59, who lived on Route 26, West Branch, died at his home on Wednesday morning, January 9, 1991. His unexpected death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.

Born in Rome on December 10, 1931, he was a son of Chester A. and Doris Houser Worden. A lifelong resident of West Branch, where he attended the local school, he later attended West Leyden Central School. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. For 34 years Mr. Worden was employed at Rome Air Developmental Center, where he was an engineering technican. he retired on Jan. 3, 1987.

On August 15, 1953, he married Virginia Converse in Rome. Mrs. Worden died on July 13, 1989. Mr. Worden is survived by his mother, who lives in West Branch, one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Lorraine) Lewin, West Branch, two sons, Chester A. Worden III, Rome, and Daniel R. Worden, West Branch, six grandchildren, two brothers, Charles E. Worden, West Branch, and Donald Worden, Clark Mills. Another brother, Ronald W. Worden, died on January 1, 1986.

Interment will be made in Friends Cemetery, West Branch.

Ronald W. Worden, 50, of Lee Valley Road, a 33 year veteran Revere Copper Products employee, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1986, in Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse. He had been seriously ill for the past three weeks.

He was born in Rome on Jan. 15, 1935, a son of Chester and Doris Houser Worden. His younger life was spent in West Branch. He graduated from West Leyden Central School in the class of 1952. He was a machine operator and recently a tractor driver for Revere Copper Products, Rome.

From March 1957 to March 1961, he served in the Air Force.

He married Jean McPhail Matt on April 20, 1968, in Taberg.

Mr. Worden was a member of the Rome Moose Club, Local 56 of the Mechanics Educational Society of America, and for several years he was a member of the Double Bar B Boys Country Western Band.

Surviving besides his wife are his mother, of Rome, a daughter, Mary Ann Worden, at home, three step-daughters, Laura Matt, at home, Mrs. William (Catherine) Roff and Mrs. Philip (Barbara) Stanley, both of Rome, two step-sons, Joe Matt and Edward Matt, both of Rome, and three brothers, Charles E. Worden and Chester Worden, both of West Branch, and Donald Worden, Clark Mills, and eight granddaughters. A son, Richard Worden, died in April 1982.

Burial will be in Friends Cemetery at West Branch.


Worden, Virginia Converse

West Branch - Mrs. Virginia Worden, 54, Route 26, died Thursday afternoon, July 13, 1989, at her home after a brief illness.

Born in Rome August 27, 1934, she was the daughter of Lawrence J. and Florence Bronson Converse. A 1952 graduate of Rome Free Academy, she married Chester A. Worden Jr. on August 15, 1953, in Rome. She lived in West Branch since her marriage.

She was a former employee of Revere Corporation in Rome, and worked as a keypunch oeprator at Griffiss Air Force Base. She also worked as a strander at Camden Wire Company.

Mrs. Worden attended the First Presbyterian Church of Rome, and was a member of the West Leyden Food Co-op.

Surviving besides her husband is a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Lorraine) Lewin, West Branch, two sons, Chester A. Worden III, Rome, and Daniel R. Worden, West Branch, six brothers, Lawrence J. Converse Jr., West Branch, Ted Converse, Fowler, Calif., Leo Converse and Richard Converse, Rome, Jack Converse, Floyd, Carl Converse, Clinton, three sisters, Mrs. Richard (Thelma) Lehman and Mrs. Raymond (Isabelle) Walters, Rome, and Mrs. Wallace (Myrtie) Stellwagen, Verona, and six grandchildren.

Burial in West Branch Cemetery. (note: she is buried in the Quaker Cemetery, West Branch)
