Julia A. Tanner, whose loss we mourn, was born in Camden, Oneida County, New York, March 15, 1821. She married Aaron Blakeslee in 1842. In 1865 they came to Michigan and bought the farm in Courtland Township upon which they quietly lived until death separated them for a little time. Five children were born to them, four of them are living, Emily Root of Pennsylvania, Sarah Milton of Rockford, Dell, wife of C. B. Holden, and Julia, wife of Herman Smith. After the death of her husband the deceased went to live with her third daughter, Mrs. C. B. Holden, with whom she passed the remainder of her earthly days. She died Sept. 10, 1900 at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 26 days, having been a great sufferer for many years from that dread disease, consumption. During the four years she was in the comfortable home of her daughter her every want was supplied. Even the grandchildren were taught to be considerate of grandma's comfort and the vacancy left in the household will long be felt by the bereaved family. Gone to her reward, many were her virtues. The funeral occurred at the residence, Rev. Chas. Oldfield officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Courtland Cemetery.
