Hazel M. Emper, 88, of State Rt. 13, died Friday, August 14, 1998 at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Florence, NY on Sept. 17, 1909 a daughter of Elmer & Lula Tanner Williams. Hazel was educated in local schools and had lived in the Oneida area before returning to Camden in the early 1950's. On July 29, 1951 she married O'Neil J. Emper in Clarence, PA, Together they owned and operated Neil's Shoe Repair and Gift Shop in Camden for many years prior to retiring in 1982. Mr. Emper died January 27, 1988. Mrs. Emper was a member of the Camden United Methodist Church, Lt. Victor Giles V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Camden Villagers. Surviving are 1 step-son, John J. Emper, Newark, NY; several grand and great-grand step-children; 1 sister, Norma & Caryl Crist, Camden, NY, a brother-in-law - Jay & Jeanette Ischia, Blossvale, NY; several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Eleanor Ischia and Genevieve Cagwin and 1 brother, Harold Williams. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday from the Sanborn-McDaniels & LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Camden, NY. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Camden: O'Neil J. Emper, 76, of Camden-Mcconnellsville Road, who was associated with his father at the Emper Shoe Store, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1988, after being stricken at home. Born in Clarence, Pa., on July 3, 1911, he was a son of Francisco and Christina Mecone Emper. He served with the Navy during World War II in the European Theater, and on July 29, 1951, he married Hazel Williams in Pennsylvania. He later owned and operated Neil's Shoe Repair and Gift Shop, until his retirement in 1982. He also drove school bus for the Camden Central School and worked for Jay's Sales and Service. He attended the Camden Methodist Church, was a life member of the Victor Giles Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, where he was a past senior vice-commander; a member of Arthur S. Warren American Legion Post, and the Camden Senior Citizens. Surviving besides his wife are a son, John J. Emper, Newark; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Quenneville, Camden, and three grandchildren. Services will be at 11 am Friday at the Sanborn McDaniels & LaRobardiere Funeral Home, 109 Main St., Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
