Blowers, Roy E.

October 30, 2008Sylvan Beach - Roy E. Blowers Sr., 81, of Tenth Avenue, died Tuesday evening, October 28, 2008, at his daughter's residence in the Town of Florence. Born on April 5, 1927, he was the son of Daniel and Hazel Mowers Blowers. A lifelong resident of the area, Roy was educated in the Oneida School district. He married Sherley J. Loomis on December 28, 1974. Mrs. Blowers died on July 1, 1997.
Prior to his retirement, Roy was employed by Canastota Construction as a heavy equipment operator. He had previously been employed as a mechanic and service manager at the former Vertucci Chevrolet and A. F. Ryan and Sons, Inc., and as a cook at the former Hillside Restaurant and Palace Restaurant. Roy was a former Trustee and Deputy Mayor for the Village of Sylvan Beach for eighteen years. He was a member and former president of the SYlvan Beach Fire Department. Roy was also a foster parent and a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and John Carroll of Florence, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Roy E. and Kathy Blowers Jr. of Constantia and Gene Blowers of East Syracuse, one step-daughter and her husband, Maria and Fran Brown of Yulee, FLorida, one step-son, Bruce Winton of McConnellsville, his adopted children, Carl, CINDY and Bevin Blowers, one sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and James Warner of Clockville, several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Rita Hall, and two brothers, Richard Blowers Sr. and Robert Blowers.
Funeral services will be held from the Campbell Dean Funeral Home, Oneida. Interment will be in Fish Creek Landing Cemetery.
