Richard P. (Dick) Carpenter, age 62, of 9187 Harris Rd., Lee Center, NY, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born March 19, 1936 in Rome, the son of Melvin and Stasia Smith Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was educated in Rome schools. On August 4, 1962 he married Rita Smith in Rome. Mr. Carpenter was employed by Revere Copper and Brass for seventeen years, retiring in 1985 due to disability. He served in the United states Navy from 1953 to 1968.

Mr. Carpenter was an honorary life member of the Lee Legion and the Rome VFW, and he was also a member of the Frank J. Steczko Post and the Stanwix Men's Club. Surviving besides his wife are one son, Tracy Carpenter, Lee center, one granddaughter, Sara Ann Carpenter, one sister, Mrs. Alfred C. (Mary) Eastup, Rome, four brothers, Edward Carpenter, McConnellsville, Joseph Carpenter, Rome, Dennis Carpenter, Verona Beach, Bernard (Butch) Carpenter, Rome. He was predeceased by one sister, Edith Carrier, and three brothers, Robert, James and Tony Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held at the Nunn & Harper Funeral Home Friday at 11 am. Interment in Lee Valley Cemetery.
