Camden - A 29 year old Camden man was killed early Sunday morning when his auto struck a tree on the Halstead Road, a mile south of Route 12 in the Town of Vienna.

State Police theorized that Geoffrey A. Kent, 8565 Maple Terrace, Camden, fell asleep as he was driving north on Halstead Road and his car veered head on into a tree.

The time of the accident was set at 12:30 am when residents of the area head a crash, looked outside but saw nothing to account for it. Over an hour later, passing motorists discovered the vehicle just off the highway, down a slight embankment.

The McConnellsville Fire Department ambulance and Troopers H. G. Christensen and Donald P. Otis were called to the scene.

Coroner Thomas A. Cox attributed the death to a broken neck.

Mr. Kent was born July 5, 1939 in Rome, the son of Mrs. Laura McLaughlin Kent and the late Lawrence A. Kent. He graduated from Camden Central School in 1957. He married the former Eleanor Barry April 9, 1966 in Camden with the Rev. F. W. Bittner officiating.

He was a member of the Untied Presbyterian Church of Camden and a member of the Camden Continentals Fife and Drum Corps. He was a four year veteran of the Air Force and was a foreman at the Camden Wire Co.

He leaves his wife, a daughter, Lisa Mae, 2, his mother in Camden, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Earl Kent, Camden, and four brothers, Nigel, Boston, Mass., Rodney, Marietta, Ohio, and Vann and Hall, both of Camden.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday with Burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
