Edwin L. Marggi, 85, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, October 19th at the home of his daughter.

Edwin was born int he Town of Leyden to Frieda (Siegfried) and Jakob Marggi on August 10, 1914. he was educated in the Boonville school system, and enlisted in the US Army in 1939. he served as a parachutist and expert marksman of the 101st. Airborne throughout WW II. he was awared the WW II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

He was untied in marriage to Mabel K. Armstrong in St. Peters Church in Rome on December 30, 1948. She passed away on August 23, 1991. Ed was a lifelong carpenter and retired from B. S. McCarey Construction in 1979 but continued to work summers until 1984. He was an avid hunter, fisher, golfer and bowler. Ed was a member of the R. Kirk Parkhurst Post # 1448 American Legion, Oriskany, Oriskany Hills Gold Club and the Rome YMCA, where he continued to enjoy workout out each morning.

He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Margi-Farruggia and James Farruggia, Westmoreland, Patricia and Rory Montgomery, Rome, three grand-daughters, Lisa Vickers-Montgomery, Jessica Vickers-montgomery, four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Helen O'Dell, Westmoreland, Alice and Edward Thomas, Rochester, Della Sharron and Evelyn and Raymond Lince, all of Rome, a special niece and nephew, Doris and Gordon Sprague, and many other nieces and nephews. he was predeceased by three brothers, Jacob Marggi, William Marggi and Ernest Pfendler.

Funeral services will be held Friday from the Barry Funeral Home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
