New Fairfield, Ct - Robert V. Payne, 59, husband of Catherine Dyer Payne, of 3 Saddle Ridge Road, New Fairfield, CT, died at the Danbury Hospital on Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, following a brief illness.

He was born in Rome, New York, December 1, 1939, son of the late Robert G. and Frances C. Fahey Payne. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and had been in retail management for many years. He moved to Danbury, CT in 1979 and managed the Sears Roebuck on Main St. there. He left that position in 1983 and recently co-owned Interior Creations in Danbury.

Mr. Payne was a member of St. Peters Church in Danbury and had formerly been involved with youth athletics in New Fairfield.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Carolyn M. F. Payne, of New Fairfield, two sons, Michael P. Payne of Duluth, GA, and Stephen D. Payne of Columbia, CA, a sister, Patricia P. Waldo of Minnesota, and 16 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Payne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church on Monday. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.
