Tracy - this line has been traced back to county Carlow, Ireland. Michael Tracy married Annie Maher. Michael and Annie had at least two children, Michael (b. September 1845) and Jeremiah. Michael (jr) immigrated to the US in 1873 and married Hannah Quinlan, they did not have any children. Jeremiah married Mary Hanlon. Jeremiah and Mary had at least 4 children, John H. (b. 1/6/1865), Annie H. (b. 2/26/1867), Thomas (b. 12/24/1868) and Mary (b. 12/03/1874).

John, Annie and Thomas were born in Borris, Carlow, Ireland. John immigrated to the US abt. 1885 (An interesting fact about John Tracy is that John Tracy is listed in the 1900 US census as John Hanlon. It seems as though he was occasionally using his mother’s maiden name). He married Elizabeth Gainey (b. 2/24/1863) who immigrated to the US abt. 1884. John and Elizabeth had five children; Mary J (b. 9/16/1894), John X (b. 12/19/1896), Elizabeth A (b. 01/08/1899), Esther A (b. 4/15/1900) and Thomas Francis (b. 8/31/1901). All of John and Elizabeth’s children were born in Somerville, MA.

Mary never married, John died as a child, Elizabeth married John Quirk, Esther married John Landrigan and Thomas married Helen Weber in Lexington MA on October 12, 1929. (Picture to the left)

History of the Tracy Family Christening Gown

Tracy Family Christening Dress

The Tracy Family Christening Dress was made for the Tracy Family in Ireland in the late 1800’s. It was sent to John and Elizabeth Tracy. All of John and Elizabeth Tracy’s children and many of their descendants (about 40 people to date) have been christened in this dress. The listing that follows includes the names, birth dates and places of christening for all of the first generation descendants. The dress was made of the finest cotton. The fact that the dress has survived, at this writing after some 108 years of use, is proof of that quality.

Due to privacy reasons the 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th generation descendants are not listed.

This Brett Line has been traced back to county Kilkenny in Ireland. The earliest ancestor found to date is William Brett. His son, Thomas Brett married Mary Darcy in St. Mary’s Church, Kilkenny, Kilkenny, Ireland on February 2^nd 1879.

Most of what is known about the Gainey’s comes from research on the Tracy line. It is believed that this family originated from county Cork in Ireland. Elizabeth Gainey (b. 2/24/1863) married John Tracy. She was born in county Cork. Her parents were William Gainey and Mary McCarthy.

Hanlon

This line has been traced to County Carlow, Ireland. Mary Hanlon married Jeremiah Tracy (some research has indicated Darby as a first name for Jeremiah). Mary and Jeremiah were married on February 9, 1864 in Borris, Carlow, Ireland and had at least 3 children, John(b. 1/6/1865), Annie(b. 2/26/1867) and Thomas (b. 12/24/1868). An interesting fact about John Tracy is that he is listed in the 1900 US census as John Hanlon. It seems as though he was occasionally using his mother’s maiden name.

Recent research shows in the 1893 Town Directory for the town of Waltham MA indicates that one, Mary H. Hanlon., widow of Darby, boards Newton, cor. River. I believe this is the same Mary Tracy (nee Hanlon) mentioned above. It is unclear if Jeremiah (Darby) ever came to the U.S.

This is a line of German descent. There is still little known about this line. Margaretha Kemper was apparently from Bremen, Germany. She married Louis Weber abt. 1879 in the U.S. They had 6 children: Arthur Charles (b. 11/8/1880), Clara Gertrude (b. 2/1882), Louis (b. 7/1883), Freda (b. 8/1886), Helmuth (b. 8/1891) and Henrietta (b. 11/1896).
