THE RICE FAMILY

John S. Rice was born in South Carolina about 1800.  John, and his wife (name unknown) had 4 children while living in South Carolina; John, Mary, Charlie and Caroline. Between 1833 and 1837 they then moved to Stewart Co.,Georgia were they have 4 more children; Henry, Thomas, George and Benjamin. John's wife died between 1845 and 1850.

On January 31, 1851 the oldest daughter Mary Ann Rice was married to Franklin Scrimshire the son of William Brown-Scrimshire and Theresa Goza. In December of 1851 the oldest son John Franklin Rice married Della Elizabeth Bates the daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Bates.  John and Elizabeth had 3 children while living in Georgia; Annie Elizabeth, William and C.B. (female).  Frank and Mary Scrimshire had 2; John and Susanna.

About 1856 John S. Rice, his children still at home, and his married children with their families moved to Clark Co., Mississippi.
