1961 Silvertown Sugar and Crystal Fleets

were combined under the name of Sugar Line Ltd ( Athel Tankers ).

 

In 1961 The Athel Fleet consisted of

ATHELBEACH, ATHELBRAE, ATHELCHIEF, ATHELCREST, ATHELCROWN, ATHELFOAM, ATHELKNIGHT, ATHELLAIRD, ATHELMERE, ATHELMONARCH, ATHELPRINCE, ATHELPRINCESS, ATHELQUEEN, ATHELSTANE, ATHELTEMPLAR

and ATHELVISCOUNT.

 

1962 P&O Group consolidated their combined tanker fleets as Trident Tankers.

1963 P&O joined with Erling Naess’Anglo Norness Shipping Company,

as Associated Bulk Carriers, Bermuda.

 

1963 Athel Line joined with Scandinavian partners as Anco Tanker Services.

These partners had themselves been in co-operation from the 1950s;

A.O.Andersen, Henry Collingwood and other Norwegian ship owners,

Iver Bugge and Haldor Virik.

1967 Anco entered the parcel tanker market.

 

1968 P & O Lines Ltd. & Ocean Transport & Trading Ltd.

(Panocean Shipping & Terminals Ltd.), London, UK formed.

1970 P&O Bulk Shipping Division, took over Trident Tankers, Hain-Nourse, Associated Bulk Carriers,

Panocean and Mundo Gas.
August 1971 P&O Bulk Shipping elements merged as one.

 

1972  Athel Line ( Tate & Lyle ) took over the whole of the Anco shareholding.

1973 The Anco company became wholly owned by Tate & Lyle.

1976 P&O Bulk Shipping took control of Tate & Lyle’s Anco,

becoming Panocean Anco.

 

1982  The tanker company of Stolt-Nielsen was re-established at Cos Cob, Connecticut.

Stolt Tankers Joint Service was established, following an agreement under which

Stolt-Nielsen marketed the 11 ships of the Panocean Anco fleet.

In 1982, The Panocean Anco Fleet consisted of

ANCO CHARGER, ANCO CHASER, ANCO EMPRESS,

ANCO ENDEAVOUR, ANCO ENERGIE, ANCO ENTENTE,

ANCO ENTERPRISE, ANCO SOVEREIGN,

ANCO STANE, ANCO SCEPTRE and ANCO TEMPLAR

 

Anco ceased operating in 1983.

 

In the lists below, where two dates are shown, the first is the date of build

and the second is the date of renaming to the ANCO fleet.
