Flat bottom, Square bilge and tapered ends. Length of
taper 23 ft.
Double bottom 3 ft fore & aft with 2 Wt continuous girders.
Breadth at point 22 ft 6 ins.
Six W T transverse bulkheads.
5 main compartments subdivided by two longitudinal
bulkheads into 10 hoppers.
The space between the longitudinal bulkheads forms a 9 ft
2 ins central passage
for working coal and giving access underneath hoppers.
Steel deck 20 lbs forms hopper bottom 7 ft 11 ins above
tank top with trap doors for working coal.
Plating carried on 2 longitudinal bars 4 x 3 ½ x 3 x 12.5
lbs
which in turn are carried on I beams 4 ft 4 ins apart 10
x 6 x 6 x 37.5lbs.
Two I pillars under every beam 5 x 5 x 5 x 25lbs. Frames
to shell 8 1/2 x 3 ½ x 26lbs at 26 ins apart.
Webframes 24 ins x 20lbs every 4th frame.
Stiffeners to CP bulkheads 7 x 3 ½ x 23lbs at 26 ins
apart. Web frame 18 x 20 lbs in centre of each hopper.
Cross bracing in centre of each hopper 12 x 3 ½ x 30lbs.
Down channel 3 side stringer 24 x 20lbs to shell, two
side stringers 18 x 20lbs and baffle deck to CP bulkheads.
Bracing between CP bulkheads at centre of hoppers consist
of heavy athwartship beams.
Upper deck steel 36-22 lbs over hoppers double thickness.
At ends single thickness 14lbs. Beams 8 x 3 ½ x 22lbs at
every frame.
8 fenders at each side 12 x 9. Two hatches to each hopper
in all 20 at 26 x 12 ft;
two hatches in centre between trasverse bulkheads 10 in
all 26 x 9 ft.
Compartments at ends.
After end steeel main deck stringer and WT Lower deck.
Two boilers on tank top.
Engines & dynamos on lower deck. bunkers at sides.
Two steel chain lockers.
Windlass on upper deck.
Fore end
Steel main and WT lower deck. Stores and steel chain
lockers below lower deck.
Stores on lower deck.
Accommodation.
On main and lower decks for crew of 80.
Ventilation under coal hoppers.
10 electric fans for extracting coal dust from below hoppers
and discharging it back into the hoppers. By Mechin of Glasgow.
Machinery.
Two SE boilers 12ft 9ins dia x 10ft 6ins. Slipway.
Separate electrical generating plants.
Clarke Chapman for working transporters windlass etc.
Two electrical windlasses 2 9/16 ins Clarke Chapman.
Temperley Gear for working coal.
Four travelling towers each with one fixed and two
portable Temperley Transporters.
Twelve special electric windlasses for working
transporters and four extra winches for working the towers fore and aft.
Towers travel on steel rails laid on upper deck.
