The purpose of this page to assist individuals searching for ancestors who resided in the so-called Tri-State area.  This area encompasses the land around the junction of South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana and includes:  Crook County, WY; Carter County, MT; Butte and Harding Counties in SD, as well as parts of Perkins, Meade, and Lawrence Cos. in South Dakota.  We would like this Home Page to be as useful and informative as possible. 
The Society meets at the Belle Fourche Public Library the 4th Thursday of each month, except Nov.  Everyone is welcome!


NEW RESEARCH TOOLS AT BELLE FOURCHE LIBRARY

Belle Fourche Library and Tri-State Genealogical Society have purchased a series of old area newspapers:


Govert Advance 1928 to 1939 some issues missing (town in southern Harding County)
Castle Rock Press and Moreau News 1916 – 1926 Northern Butte County
Newell Irrigator and Castle Rock Press -- 1928 – 1930 issues missing 1931
Newell Valley Irrigator 1907 – 1927 some missing
Newell Valley Irrigator 1932-1984 some missing
Butte County Valley Irrigator 1985-2004
Newell Reclamation News 1915-1917


These newspapers are on microfilm – if you know a certain date, the Society will be glad to do look-ups and make copies for $5. Email MaryB  or Pat  
Anyone is welcome to come to the library to read the microfilm and print research for yourself.
Many of Harding obituaries would have been published in Belle Fourche Post or Bee also at the library.

Thanks to the efforts of Howard Ross and Milt Miller, the Society now has available a 15-year index to the WY-MON-DAK Messenger. cost $35.00, includes index, binder & tabs. The Genealogical Society members Howard Ross and Milt Miller have also created a index of the Butte County federal censuses (1880, 1900, 1910, 1920). There is also an index of the earliest tax register for Butte County.

If you would like these Indexes checked for a name,  send $2.00 and a SASE.  The Messenger Index will be checked and then if the name is found, the page from the newsletter will be sent to you.  Send to the above address or the below email.  Individual newsletter sell for $1.00 each.
