Dear
Sis and family.
Yours
received and was glad to hear from you all, but am ashamed of myself
for not writing any (others?) but it keeps me very busy. Now days
while the ship is in dry dock I am on the go all the time. I have
to come to New London every day. There is so much red tape if you
want any thing done. I have to get a boat to carry the Stores from
N.L. to Norfolk and then I have to see all the big guns in order
to get the boat to take the stuff.
Well
Donnie I am feeling fine. Your advice is good, but I am still the
same boy. I never drink. I just taken out $200 liferty (liberty?)
for & had it made out to Hettie, but of course if she gets married
I will have the whole works changed to my estate for there is no
parshel (partial?) whatever with any of you.
Well
Sis, I am glad I came in as I did, but I would like to see (more)
actual service than I have, but from what I can hear the(y) will
go to the North Seas when we get all repairing done & of course
we will see it over there. Well Sis, I sure would like to come down
before we go, but you see I can’t hardly afford to ask for a furlough.
If I was only a seaman it would be different, but I am doing Chief’s
work and expect to make Chief soon and I have got to stay on the
job, but I will come some time sure, but I can’t say just when.
Am
sure glad to hear of Oscar feeling the way he does. I had to tell
the Captain about it.He said he sure like(s) to hear a man talk
that way. Said he was an all around American.
Had
a letter from Louis. They are all OK. Had a girl.
Well
Sis, there is nothing to tell. We are in dock so I don’t see anything,
but I hope to get out on the job soon. We have a Victorola and we
have that (pic?) and we have one that’s just like Washington Crossed
the Delaware J.. will cross the Rhine. We…for (Ricards?) and buy
them all the time.
Well,
this is all, as I have to go. So goodbye with Love and best wishes,
from
Fate
Tell
the kids to write. I sure like to like to get their letters.
