History |
Bitten by the history bug early on in high school. My interest further congealed with my volunteer work planning the provincial bicentennial celebrations of 1984. Working consistently intermittently throughout my university years, I made good and regular use of the then 24/7 hours of the Canadian Archives' reading rooms, spending more than one night reading census microfilms till sunrise. With the good fortune to belong to the pur laine qubecois, in fact, as descendants of the original thousand, it took no time to complete my patrilineal lines back to the original immigrants. With time, an inhumane amount of patience and more help from fellow researchers than believable. Not to mention a good dozen, or so, serendipitous incidents. (There is definitely a strong and twisted sense of humour hovering somewhere in my ancestors.) Over the subsequent decades I have been able to follow most of my lineages back to the immigrants. In some places just three generations, and in others eleven generations. At times quiet, at times outspoken, my ancestors are as diverse as their names. Hard working, loyal and strong-minded with a taste for hard whiskey and good beer, is the only description that encompasses them all. Who am I to buck tradition.
