Sheldon Turcott Sheldon Turcott (b. 1936 d. February 18, 2000) was a reporter and host on the Canadian television channel CBC for four decades. He was a frequent contributor to The National working at times as a newsreader, foreign correspondent, and executive producer of the program. He covered Iran, the Middle East and Hong Kong, and he reported from Vietnam and Cambodia. From 1984 until his retirement in 1995 he was the regular newsreader on CBC's Midday program. For a brief period prior to that, Turcott commuted to Regina each week to anchor CBKT's 6pm newscast, an effort to boost the station's nearly non-existent ratings. Turcott had a grade 10 education but he more than made up for his lack of a formal education with an insatiable curiosity. Friends and colleagues say Turcott had no tolerance for shoddy journalism and was very strict about his work. But he had a playful side as well. "He always enjoyed the game of news and he had a captivating little smile that just won him a lot of fans," says CBC journalist Knowlton Nash. By the time Turcott left the CBC, there wasn't a job he hadn't tried. While in his semi-retirement, he hosted the quiz series TimeChase and was also seen in the feature film, Murder at 1600, as a TV reporter. Turcott retired in 1995 to a quieter life in suburban Toronto. The cause of death hasn't been revealed. turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau turcault turcot turcotte turreau |
