Chop Suey

2 cups roast beef, chicken or pork
3 tablespoons soya sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
4 tablespoons salad oil
3 medium onions
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups celery (sliced)
1 green pepper, cut in strips
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
1 cup water
2 tablespoons corn starch
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
20 ounces bean sprouts, rinsed and drained


Makes 6-8 servings.
Slice meat thinly using 1 or 2 kinds of meat.

Combine soya sauce and sugar with meat and stir together.
Let stand 15 minutes.

Heat oil in 12" skillet and add onions and garlic.
Saute for 2-3 minutes on low heat and add meat/soya marinade.

Stir, cover and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat.

Add vegetables and stir together.
Add water mixed with corn starch, salts and pepper.
Add bean sprouts.

Stir and cover.
Cook 5 minutes.

Serve hot over rice or alone.

Great old family recipe from an old family friend. A great comfort food for groups. Our families spent many great times sharing stories and chop suey.
