Sugar Cookies

1/3 cup butter or margarine
1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cups white sugar
1 teaspoons baking powder
Dash salt
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour


Makes 40 cookies.
Cream butter and shortening, gradually add sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add egg and vanilla, beat well.
Add flour.

Divide dough in half. Cover and chill for 3 hours, until easy to handle.

On lightly floured surface, roll to 1/8" thick. Cut with cookie cutter.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 375F for 7 to 8 minutes, until edges are firm, and bottom is light brown.

Cool on rack.

Dough can be coloured with food colouring, decorated with coloured sugar before baking, or icing when cooled.

A simple, but delicious cookie recipe that our family made every year. A great and fun family tradition.
