Blackwell, Dennis W.

Dennis W. Blackwell, 67, Racine, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center on
Thursday, March 2, 2000. Dennis was born in North Hampton, England on March
18, 1932, to Leonard W. and Edith Blackwell. He loved fishing and hunting.

Dennis is survived by a son, David Blackwell, Green Bay; daughter, Denise
Alsteen, Marinette; two granddaughters, Diana and Danielle Alsteen; and special
friends, Harriet Graf and Marjorie DenHartigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Noel Blackwell.

Memorial services for Dennis will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, March 5,
2000, at 6:30 p.m. with the Rev. Maurice Felton officiating. Relatives and friends
may meet with the family at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. until
the time of services. Cremation has taken place.

William (Maggie)

Mrs. William (Maggie) Calewarts, 78, Town of Ledgeview, passed away
unexpectedly with her family by her side March 3, 2000. She was born Dec. 11,
1921, in the Town of Eaton to the late Joseph and Josephine Gerlikowski. She
married Willie Calewarts on May 6, 1944, at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic
Church in the Town of Eaton. Maggie and Willie farmed and sold Christmas trees
for many years. She enjoyed gardening and canning, camping and fishing, playing
cards, bingo and time spent with her family and friends.

Survivors include her three children and one daughter-in-law, Barb Kafka and the
late Denis Kafka, Mary (Jerry) Thompson, Mike (Kathy) Calewarts;
daughter-in-law, Kay Calewarts and the late Wayne Calewarts; 15 grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Umentum, Mrs. Emily Bolduc; her
brother, Raymond and Fern Gerlikowski; her very special friend, Harold
VanDenHuvel; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne and Randy; grandson, Wayne Jr.

Ebert, Mrs. Walter A. (Florence Schwab)

Mrs. Walter A. (Florence Schwab) Ebert, 93, Green Bay, died Thursday, March 2,
2000. She was born Oct. 4, 1906, to the late Louis and Magdalena (Schmit)
Schwab, at her parents' farm home north of Isaar in Seymour Township, in
Outagamie County. She graduated from North Seymour School and Snow's
College of Dressmaking in Shawano. Florence married Walter Antone Ebert on
Oct. 28, 1925, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Isaar. At the same ceremony
her sister, Mildred married Frank L. Ebert, Walter's brother. Walter preceded her
in death on March 1, 1965. After their marriage the couple managed cheese
factories in Oconto County for 35 years, moving to Wrightstown in 1960. After
Walter's death, Florence was employed in alterations at Prange's Department
Store and at Nau's. Florence was an artist and skilled seamstress. She designed
and made clothes for herself and her family. She made her own wedding dress
and Mildred's wedding dress. In later years, Florence collected antique dolls and
designed and made period clothes for them. She enjoyed the dear friends she
made collecting dolls. Florence was a member of Annunciation of the Blessed
Virgin Mary Catholic Church since moving to Green Bay in 1968, and also
belonged to the Parish Mission Society. She was very devoted to her Catholic
faith and to the Rosary.

Survivors include three sons, Clayton and Audrey (Mielke) Ebert and their two
daughters, Nancy (Daniel) DenBoer and their children, Katherine and Emily;
Sherry (Stephen) Arthur and their children, James, Meaghan and Jennifer; Duane
Ebert with whom Florence made her home; Gary and Myrna (Klister) Ebert and
their children, Theresa (Michael) Reynders and their children, Anna, Erin and
Rachel; Diane (Steven) Diny and their children, Maria, Elizabeth and Nicholas;
Daniel Walter (Lynda Lamers) Ebert and their son, Jacob; her brother and
sister-in-law, Philip and Lucille Schwab, Shiocton; two sisters and a
brother-in-law, Esther Luedke, Berniece and Harold Caelwarts, all of Green Bay; a
sister-in-law and her husband, Luella (Ebert) and William Pamperin, Howard;
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Florence was godmother to Romaine
(Molitor) Vanderleest, Patricia (Nelson) Perry, Daniel Luedke, Diane (Ebert) Diny.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; one sister, Mildred
(Ebert) Burger on April 19, 1998; a great-grandson, Jonathan Thomas Diny on
Dec. 29, 1990; and a godchild, Germain (Ebert) Landwehr.

Relatives and friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from
3 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be a
Parish Wake Service at 7 p.m. Sunday. Relatives and friends may also call at the
funeral home from 9 a.m. Monday until the funeral procession leaves for church.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Annunciation of the
Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 401 Gray St., with Msgr. Roy M. Klister
officiating. Burial will be in St. Sebastian Catholic Church Cemetery, Isaar.

Florence's family wishes to thank two special care givers, Lynette Coenen and
Arlene Finlan and the devoted staff of Grancare Nursing Center.

thy coming and take thee to Jerusalem, the Holy City. May the choirs of angels,
receive thee and mayest thou with the once poor Lazarus have everlasting rest.

Garrity Sr., Ronald J.

Ronald J. Garrity Sr., 64, Wabeno, formerly of Green Bay, passed away, Friday,
March 3, 2000. He was born Sept. 8, 1935, to the late John and Gertrude
(Hagens) Garrity, in Green Bay. He graduated from St. Norbert College in 1957.
On June 15, 1957, Ron married Mary Lou Compton. Ron and his father, John
founded Bay Auto Parts in 1960. He operated the business with his father and
brother, Gerald until his retirement in 1993. Ron was a very generous supporter of
the President's Club of St. Norbert College. He was also a member of the Catholic
Order of Forresters, the Wabeno Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors
of the Roberts Lake Association.

Ron had a special love for his cottage on Roberts Lake near Wabeno, moving his
home there after his retirement. A devoted husband and family man, Ron
especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He participated in bowling, golfing and
fishing and followed a wide variety of sports and was an avid Green Bay Packer
fan. Ron was an active fund-raiser for various organizations and was a devoted
member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Howard and St. Ambrose
Church in Wabeno.

Ron is survived by his wife, Mary; his children and their spouses, Richard and
Laurie Garrity, Wausau; Randy and Judy Garrity, Oneida; Ronald Jr. and Jane
Garrity, Green Bay; Robert Garrity and his special friend, Scott Wilson, De Pere;
Melinda and Michael Ruby, Suamico; five grandchildren, Stephen, Nicholas, Katie
and Gage Garrity and Heather Ruby; step-grandchildren, Rene Kirk, Brent Dorner;
his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Durwood and Barbara Garrity, St.
Louis, Mo.; Jack and Susan Garrity, Cincinnati, Ohio; Joan and Dale Weiland,
Howard; Gerald and Mary Garrity, Green Bay; Dennis and Susan Garrity, Oneida;
his stepmother, Gladys Garrity, Bradenton, Fla.; his brothers-in-law and

Thomas Garrity; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Bernadine and Andrew
Ozarowicz, Ella Vannieuwenhoven and Arleen Compton; and three nephews,
James Klimczyk, John Compton and Bruce Compton.

Ron's family would like to thank all of Ron's family and friends for their love,
support and prayers during this difficult time. Ron will be sadly missed. The world
was a better place because of him.

Golubski, Regina

Regina Golubski, 60, Pulaski, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 2, 2000, at her
home. The daughter of Rose (Gonsior) Mroczkowski and the late Frank
Mroczkowski was born Oct. 27, 1939 in Krakow. On May 4, 1957, she married
Peter Golubski at St. Casimir Church, Krakow. She enjoyed fishing, woodcrafting,
gambling, board games, a good game of cards, summer flowers and enjoyed her
family, especially the grandkids. One of her favorite joys was decorating the house
and yard for Christmas. She said that it was her gift to the community.

Survivors include her husband, Pete; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and
Frank Szczepaniec, Sobieski; Debbie and Keith Reinhardt, Pulaski; two sons and
one daughter-in-law, Larry Golubski, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Ken and Lisa
Golubski, Wilmington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Russell, Sarah and Michael, Karla
and Douglas, Jacob; her mother, Rose Mroczkowski, Krakow; four brothers,
Leonard (Martha) Mroczkowski, Krakow; Frank (Sheila) Mroczkowski, Shawano;
Jim (Pat) Mroczkowski, Pulaski; Ray (Karen) Mroczkowski, Krakow; five sisters,

Hansen, Rebecca E. "Becky"

Rebecca E. "Becky" Hansen, 67, 2471 Carney Ave., Marinette, passed away
early Friday morning, March 3, 2000, at Whispering Oaks Care Center in
Peshtigo. She was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Madison to the late Ed and Magdalena
(Mullard) Zechel. On Jan. 19, 1952, she was married to Robert A. Hansen. They
resided in the Milwaukee and Mequon area before moving to Marinette. He
preceded her in death on March 22, 1996. For many years she worked in
Marinette delivering the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel on a motor route. She later
delivered the Green Bay Press-Gazette in this area.

Surviving are an aunt, Marie Mullard, Neenah; a cousin, Charles (Lois) Mullard,
Neenah; a godchild, Lynda (Jim) Sell, Neenah; two grand-godchildren, Matthew
and Andrew Sell; a special and devoted friend, Delores Paul, Marinette.

Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home on Sunday, March 5
after 12 noon. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the
funeral home. The Rev. Herb Kolenda will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Home
Cemetery.



Mongin, Astrid Marie

Astrid Marie Mongin, 91, formerly of Waukesha, died Feb. 28, 2000, at a local
hospital after a brief illness. Born in Sweden, Feb. 10, 1909, she is the daughter of
the late Carl and Anna Sophia (Andersdatter) Larson. The former Astrid Jader
married Richard Mongin Dec. 31, 1977, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in
Milwaukee. Astrid worked at Milwaukee Protestant Home for many years until her
retirement. She loved sewing, crocheting, collecting dolls and going to rummage
sales.

She is survived by her husband, Richard, Green Bay; one son, James Jader,
Poudre Canyon, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Peter Tisserat,
Deer Trail, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Trevor, Teresa, Tristia, Jon, Janelle, Joel,
Joy and Jere; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jon Jader; one daughter, JoAnne (Jader)
Sprinkmann; one grandchild, Jeff; one sister, Signe Edlund; one brother, Oscar
Larson.

Pyan, Edna C.

Edna C. Pyan, 78, Green Bay, passed away Friday, March 3, 2000, after a brief
illness. She was the daughter of the late Gustave and Emilia (Santo) Henke, in
Marathon City. She married Marvin Pyan who preceded her in death in 1983. Edna
was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed fishing and the
Packers. Edna's greatest joy was her family, whether it was cooking for the
holidays or going on trips visiting them.

Survivors include her three children, Ty (Diane) Pyan, Dennis Pyan, La Vonne
Pyan and life partner, Dale Gerlikovski, all of Green Bay; two grandchildren, Brad
and Wendy; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene (Ursula) Henke, Port
Washington; one brother-in-law, Alfred Friedrich, Edgar; other relatives and
friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six sisters.

Riewe, Elizabeth A. "Betty"

Elizabeth A. "Betty" Riewe, 87, 441 Madison St., Oconto, passed away March 2,
2000, at the Oconto Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Oconto,
to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Mueller) Werth. She was a life long resident of
Oconto. On June 10, 1939, she married Victor H. Riewe at the First American
Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death Aug. 9, 1989. She was a graduate of
Oconto High School, Class of 1931. Mrs. Riewe was an active member of First
American Lutheran Church where she was a choir member, member of a Bible
study group, past president of the Ladies Aid and past secretary of Naomi Circle.
She had been employed at the Marinette Knitting Mill and Lauerman's department
store.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Larry) Fritz, Mauston; two sons, Tom (Julie)
Riewe, Madison; John (Cindy) Riewe, Green Bay; a brother-in-law, Alvin (Neva)
Riewe, Fort Myers, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Vera Orth, Charlotte Harbor, Fla.;
Aleta Riewe, Hilliard, Ohio; Alice Lemorande, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Eric
and Victoria Fritz, Jason and Kyle Riewe; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters, Eleanor Tittlie,
Ethel Finger and Helen Nerenhausen; and an infant son, James.

Mrs. Rosemary J. Bellow

Mrs. Rosemary J. Bellow, 68, 136 Elm Street, Oconto Falls, died Thursday
morning, February 24, 2000 at home. The former Rosemary Sawisch was born
October 24, 1931 at Chicago, the daughter of the late Adolph and Bessie
(Hetter) Sawisch. On June 6, 1949, Rosemary was united in marriage to SFC
Edwin Walter Bellow, Sr. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1987. She was
a member of the Oconto Falls United Methodist Church. Surviving are four
daughters, Margaret Bellow and special friend Rick, Green Bay; Linda and
Nancy Bellow, Oconto Falls; Mary Ann Bellow and special friend Marvin
Jarvey, Jr., Oconto; two sons, Edwin W. Bellow, Jr. and wife Mary, Oconto
Falls, and Terry Bellow and wife Laurie, Oconto; 15 grandchildren, 3
step-grandchildren, 1 adopted grandchild, 4 great-grandchildren, many other
relatives and friends. Beside her parents and husband, Rosemary was preceded
in death by a sister Margaret Lanzendorf, by three brothers, Louis, Peter, and Art
Sawisch, and by an infant grandson. The family received relatives and friends at
Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 121 Chicago Street, Oconto from 4 until 7
PM Saturday, February 26, 2000. Funeral 7 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home.

John Cletus Maloney

John Cletus Maloney, 86, of Madison, died Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at
the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born July
30, 1913 in Oconto, WI to Francis and Mary (Lebreque) Maloney. After
graduating from high school in Oconto he attended the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, where in 1934 he received his Bachelor degree in Music.
He then moved to Spooner, WI where he was the band director and met his
future wife, Elizabeth Brietzke. They were married June 24, 1937 in Milwaukee.
Later they moved to Lake Bluff, IL, where he received his Masters degree in
Music in 1943 and an MA of Administration in 1949 from Northwestern
University. He enjoyed wood working and hosting social events and memorable
gatherings with friends and family. After his retirement, he opened an antique
refinished business. He was a lifelong avid Packer and Badger fan. Thereafter, he
and Betty retired to Madison, WI and lived in the Cherokee neighborhood. He
was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Downtown Kiwanis, Knights of
Columbus, Elks Club, and enjoyed volunteering at Oakwood Village and
Gompers Elementary School. He is survived by a brother-in-law, Albert H.
Brietzke of LaCrosse; a sister-in-law, Nell Brietzke, of Stoughton; nieces and
nephews, Christine Maloney, Madison, Mary Beth Maloney, Florida, Pat
Maloney, San Diego, CA, Dick (Bunny) Maloney, Oconto, Tim (Judy) Maloney,
Sedona, AZ, Terry (Mary) Maloney, Oconto, Sharon (Jim) McFadden), Coral
Gables, FL, Frederick (Sarah) Brietzke, Fort Atkinson, Katherine (Michael)

great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on February 19,

Grace Anna Kipper (nee Ellner)

Grace Anna Kipper (nee Ellner), 87, Sun City, Arizona (formerly of Abrams,
WI) died February 9, 2000 in Arizona. Grace was born November 21, 1912 at
Abrams to the late Frank and Ida (Lear) Ellner. She married Anthony Nowak; he
preceded her in death in 1966. She married Harry Klingelhosts; he preceded her
in death in 1994. She married Charles Kipper in May 1995. Grace worked at
Western Electric in New Jersey for 30 years, retiring in 1965. After retiring she
moved to Green Bay and then to Stiles, wintering in Florida. In recent years she
lived in Minnesota and Arizona. She is survived by her husband Charles; three
sisters, Genevieve (Gema) Bostedt, Lena; Geneva (Nienie) Falk, Abrams;
Dorothy Kryzaniak, Berlin, WI; several nieces and nephews. She was further
preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Fred, Donald Ellner; four sisters,
Mary Stone, Myrtle Jahnke, Hanna Waldow and Pearl Salnik. Friends called at
the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 26,
2000. Memorial service was 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev.
David C. Ruby officiating.

Dorathea I. Way, 85, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Bagley Township, WI died
Tuesday, February 22, 2000, at Hendricks Community Hospital, in Danville, IN.
Dorathea was a Home Nursing Care worker and was self employed for 30

Elizabeth Whiting Flynn

Elizabeth Whiting Flynn, 74, of Arlington, Texas died Wednesday, February 23,
2000 in Arlington. Elizabeth was born in Oconto, WI on April 4, 1925. In her
adult life she enjoyed being a homemaker. Survivors include two sons and their
wives; one daughter and her husband; numerous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters. Visitation was held at the
Arlington Funeral Home. Funeral service was conducted 10 a.m. Friday,
February 25, 2000, at the Arlington Funeral Home Chapel, Arlington, TX. Burial

Carol Esther Pinkowsky

Carol Esther Pinkowsky, 82, Lakewood, WI, died Sunday, February 20, 2000,
at Portage County Health Care Center, Stevens Point. Carol, the daughter of
John and Henrietta (Kupper) Bosacki was born October 29, 1917, in the
beautiful little city of Minocqua, WI. In Minocqua, she attended both grade and
high school. It was in Minocqua that Carol met and married Francis T.
Pinkowsky in 1941. They were married for more than 58 years. As the wife of a
career Army man, Carol and her family traveled from coast to coast for 20 years
before settling back in Wisconsin. Highlights for Carol during that time were the
three years she spent in both Japan and Germany. Carol loved the many
friendships and associations she had in Lakewood. She was an avid golfer, but
her home was her special love. Every day she admired the birds, the water,
wildflowers and the more than 100 trees that she and Francis had planted at their
Lakewood home. Sometimes she even admired the snow. Carol was an active
member of St. John Lutheran Church, Townsend, since 1969. Carol was the
mother of two surviving daughters, Sandra Dunkelberger, Harrisburg, PA; and
Frances (Dave) Melton, Stevens Point. Carol's only sister, Carmen Tubbs and
daughter, Sally Thomas reside in Green Bay. She is further survived by five
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by her
parents and her husband, Francis who died January 16, 2000. Visitation was held
on Thursday, February 24, 2000, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran
Church, Townsend. Funeral service followed at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gary Bratz
officiating. Interment at Lakewood Forest Cemetery. Suminski Funeral Home,
Wabeno assisted the family with arrangements.

Daniel Block

Daniel Block, 53, 7784 Ford Lane, Gillett, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon,
February 23, 2000, at the Veterans hospital in Milwaukee. Survivors are his wife,
Donna Block, Gillett; their children, Sabrina (Kevin) McQuillan, Green Bay; John
(Leslie Braun) Block, Gillett; his parents, Arnold and Joyce Block, Gillett; his
in-laws, Harold and Esther Jenquine, Lena; five brothers, two sisters, other
relatives and friends. Friends called at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls,
after 3 p.m. Sunday until the time of services. Funeral was 7 p.m. Sunday at the
funeral home.

Norman Leege

Norman G. Leege, 95, died on February 17, 2000 at a West Bend nursing
home. He was born March 19, 1904 at the family farm at Maplewood (Door
County) to Gustave and Marie (Wessel) Leege. He married Ella Benesh on May
7, 1932 in Milwaukee. He was employed in a number of management positions
and business ventures in Milwaukee, Sun Prairie and Oconomowoc, retiring to
Clearwater, FL in 1966. Survivors include his children, Jim (Mary) Leege, West
Bend; Betty (Walt) Roeser, Lakeland, FL; Tom (Carolyn) Leege, Coeur
d'Alene, ID; John (Elsa) Leege, Las Cruces, NM; and Bill (Sheri) Leege,
Oconto; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Ella, in 1990; a daughter, Kathleen; a
great-grandson; and his brother, Elmer Leege. A Memorial Service will be held in
early spring. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery (West Bend).

Malinda Laola Dumke

Malinda Laola Dumke, 90, 6707 Reim Rd., Abrams died at home on February
23, 2000. She was born April 6, 1909 at Abrams to the late William and
Henrietta (Margell) Feldt. She married Erwin H. Dumke on April 16, 1930. He
preceded her in death July 24, 1977. Malinda liked gardening especially with her
flowers. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Abrams. Survivors
include a daughter, Ardis (Louis Michael) Byng, Abrams; one granddaughter,
Sharon (Brian) Jurecki, Gillett; a sister-in-law, Emma Dumke, Abrams; nieces,
nephews and several close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband,
daughter Beverly Dumke and two sisters Esther Schwartz and Ruth Foster.
Friends called at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto from 1 to 3 p.m.
Saturday. Funeral service was 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev.
Frederik Schulz officiating. Burial at Brookside Cemetery.

Marie L. Darrow

Marie L. Darrow, 89, Gillett, died Monday morning, February 21, 2000, at
Bellin Memorial Hospital, Green Bay, following a short illness. She was born
August 19, 1910, in Gresham, to the late Herman C. and Amy (Boyden) Hohn.
On June 25, 1938, Marie married Wesley R. Darrow in Gillett. Together, the
couple owned and operated the former Darrow Furniture Store, Gillett, for 22
years. Mr. Darrow preceded her in death June 25, 1990. Marie taught
elementary school in Fond du Lac for nine years. She was a substitute teacher at
the Gillett Elementary School for a number of years. She was a member of Tabor
United Methodist Church, Gillett. Marie loved to write. She wrote numerous
articles, which were published in various newspapers and magazines, including the
Reader's Digest. She had written the history of Gillett. In 1998, Marie received
an award from the Oconto County Historical Society, for her contribution to the
preservation of the history of Oconto County. She wrote various newspaper
articles for the Gillett Public Library Building fund-raiser and was involved with
teen groups in the community. She was a passionate Bridge player, an avid
reader and loved to travel. Marie never stopped teaching people who wanted to
learn from her. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Ann, De
Pere; her daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Dale Johnson, Green Bay; her
granddaughters, Alissa Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Erica Johnson, all of Green
Bay; Amy Darrow and her fiance Richard Mangin, Amanda Darrow, all of De
Pere; her great-grandchildren, Ashley and Wesley Johnson; two nephews; one
niece, and one special grand-nephew, Paul Cota, Krakow. Marie was also
preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Ted Cota; two
infant brothers; and one infant sister. The Darrow family received relatives and
friends at Tabor United Methodist Church, Gillett, Saturday after 10 a.m.
Memorial Services were 11 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2000, at the church
with Pastor Skip Robertson officiating. Interment in Wanderers Rest Cemetery,
Gillett. The Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. James (Dee) McFadden

Mrs. James (Dee) McFadden, 73, formerly of Oconto died Saturday morning,
February 19, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center, Green Bay. The
former Edith 'Dee' Clark, was born March 16, 1926, the daughter of the late
Russell and Edith Clark. On December 15, 1946, Dee was united in marriage to
James A. McFadden, Sr. The couple owned and operated the Blue Moon
Tavern at Oconto until moving to Green Bay. Prior to that, Dee worked for
S.O.S. in Clearing, IL, was a waitress, and did Home Health Care. She lovingly
cared for her husband Jim who was in ill health in his later years. He preceded her
in death on April 12, 1999. She was an auxillary member of the Fraternal Order
of Eagles #401 at Green Bay. She will be lovingly remembered by two sons,
James, Jr. (Karen), County Line and Gary (Chris), Porterfield; two daughters,
Judy (David) Wendt, Hector, MN; Patti (Rory) Knippel, Sobieski; four brothers,
Paul (Joan), Herald, Jerry, and Art Clark; two sisters, Esther Reginous and Mary
McDonald; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild on
the way; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marge McFadden and Robert, Sr.
and Donna McFadden, Oconto; David McFadden, Panarama City, CA, John
and Yvonne McFadden, Green Bay; Wilhelmina Malloy, Walkill, NY; Florence
Hayes, Eleanor and Terrence Bendt, and Darlene and George Skarban, Oconto;
Estella and Regis Gentz, Milwaukee. Dee was preceded in death by two sons,
Timothy and Russell, a brother, Henry Clark, brothers-in-law, William and
Stanley McFadden, Stanley Nikiel, Bob Reginous, a great granddaughter,
Elizabeth Martin, and a special grandson, Jay Jonet. The family will receive

Anton "Tony" Killinger

Anton "Tony" Killinger, 96, of 801 Meadowbrook Dr., Green Bay (formerly of
Oconto) died February 16, 2000 at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. Tony was
born April 14, 1903 at Glidden, WI to the late Anton and Amelia (Eder)
Killinger. He married Mary Belongia November 7, 1931; she preceded him in
death on March 2, 1992. In his early years Tony worked at Holt Hardwood Co.
For 33 years he was owner/operator of Tony's Tavern at the junction of
Highways 22 and 41 in Oconto. Tony was a member of Holy Trinity Parish,
Oconto; the Knights of Columbus; and the Tavern League. Survivors include his
daughter, Carol (Bruce) Steiner, Green Bay; a brother, Henry Killinger, Eau
Claire; four sisters, Louise Illgen, Eau Claire; Jean (Herb) Wagner, Wausau; Amy
Messier, N. Highlands, CA; Gertrude Myott, Prairie Du Chien; two
grandchildren, Benjamin and Michael Steiner, Green Bay; four sisters-in-law,
Agnes Nerenhausen, Josephine Herald, Ida Fusselman and Mabel McTavish all
of Oconto. Tony was preceded in death by six sisters, Margaret (age 6),
Katherine See, Tracy Richards, Margaret Mayo (age 92), Nora Aubry, Marie
Kicherer; also three brothers Frank, Joseph and Nick. Friends called at the

Dr. John E. Martineau

Dr. John E. Martineau, 89, of Elkhart Lake, WI died January 18, 2000. He was
born February 6, 1910 in Oconto the son of Guy A. and Agnes Martineau. John
was a graduate of Marquette School of Medicine in 1939 and practiced at
Elkhart Lake from 1942 to 1979 except three years served in WWII in the
medical corps in the South Pacific and the Philippine Islands. He retired in 1979
and moved to Hilton Head Island, So. Carolina. Survivors include four grandsons
who live in Erie, PA; one brother, Guy (Rozella) of Friendship, WI, and one
sister, Mrs. Ellen Specht of Stevens Point, WI. John was preceded in death by
his wife, Frances; son, Tom and wife Mary Jo; sister, Florence and
brother-in-law, Ray Specht. Funeral services were conducted January 22 at
Elkhardt Lake.

Dorothy E. Damp

Dorothy E. Damp, 73, 155 Degan Rd., Oconto Falls, died Tuesday morning,
February 15, 2000 at a Green Bay hospital following a 13 month illness with
cancer. She was born December 16, 1926 in Hayes to Emil and Dorothea
(Bovea) Kitzman. On May 21, 1949 she married Donald C. Damp in Oconto
Falls. Dorothy lived in Oconto Falls for most of her life and had worked for Scott
Paper Co. for a short time. She was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo, fishing and being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry Damp, Oconto
Falls; Robert and Susan Damp, Oconto Falls; Rickie and Veronica Damp,
Pulaski; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and James Kruse, Oconto Falls;
seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one brother, Roger Kitzman;
four sisters, Irene Peterson; Valda Payette; Betty Lambert; Beverly Amdsen; her
best friend and bingo buddy, Betty Kitzman, Lena. She was preceded in death by
her parents; her husband, Donald, on November 8, 1987; three brothers, Robert,
Harold and Gordon Kitzman, and three sisters, Charlotte Williquette, Margaret
Gillis and Lorraine Damp. Friends called at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto
Falls. Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in
Oconto Falls with the Rev. Shaun McFarland officiating. Burial in Woodlawn
Cemetery, Oconto Falls.

Noel F. Olson 'Bud'

Noel F. Olson (Bud), age 80, joined his Savior in eternal glory after a courageous
battle with bone cancer on February 23, 2000. He was born in Green Bay, Wis.
on December 6, 1919 to the late Fred and Louise Olson. He graduated from
Green Bay East High School in 1939 where he excelled in athletics, particularly
football where he was a fullback under the late coach Tom Heardon. After
graduation, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Engineers Corp. as a
railroad engineer in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany under the command
of General Eisenhower from 1942 to 1945. Upon being honorably discharged
from the Army, he returned to Green Bay and married the former Irene P.
Fitzgerald on December 1, 1945 at St. Matthew’s rectory in Green Bay. They
enjoyed 54 years of marriage together. He worked for the Green Bay Western
Railroad as a conductor for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was an avid golfer and
charter member of the Brown County Men’s Club at the Brown County Golf
Course for many years. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan and started
going to the games at age seven at Hagemeister Park. He also enjoyed spending
time with his family at his cottage in Channing, Michigan, “The Cottage that Noel
Built.” He was survived by his loving wife of 54 years Irene; five children, John
(Diane) Olson, Peter (Nancy) Olson, Susan (Steve) Fostner, Mary Beth (Jim)
Deviley and Katie (Doug) Page. He is also survived by his grandchildren whom
he loved very much, Bob (Theresa) Olson, Thomas (Janna) Olson, Matthew (his
“Matthew-man”), Molly and Michael Page, Joel (Jenny) Valladoa, and Jenny
(D.J.) Basten. Also surviving Noel are his great grandchildren, Shane and Sydney
Olson, Michael and Jessica Olson; his sister June Erdman, sisters-in-law Dorothy
Olson and Mary (Bill) Miller, brothers-in-law, Frank (Arlene) Fitzgerald and
Jack (Debbie) Fitzgerald, and many nieces and nephews. Noel was preceded in
death by his parents, Fred and Louise Olson; his brother Jack J. Olson, his
nephew, David Erdman, and brother-in-law, Rockne Fitzgerald. Friends may call

Robert A. Kuxmann

Robert A. Kuxmann, 93, Green Bay, died Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at his
home. He was born August 31, 1906 in Chase, Wis. to the late Fred and
Theresa (Giese) Kuxmann. On July 29, 1931, he married Ruby Wedgwood. Bob
drove truck for Leicht Transfer and Storage for over 35 years, retiring in 1970.
He belonged to the Teamsters Union Local 75 and Redeemer Lutheran Church.
He was a very hard worker. He loved to work and could do almost anything that
needed to be done. He loved to be out in the woods, especially making maple
syrup in the spring. One of his favorite things was to be with his grandchildren and
also to play cards with his fellow retirees at Union Hall. He was well loved and
will be missed by all of his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Ruby;
four children, Kenneth Kuxmann and Monica Mutz of Suamico, Carole and Lew
Imig of Ashwaubenon, Bob and Jean Kuxmann of Suamico, Diane and Dennis
O’Connor of Ashwaubenon; seven grandchildren and spouses, LuEllen and Mike
Oskey, David and Cindy Imig, Laurie and Kevin Taicher, Jody and Dale Heuer,
Steven and Julie Kuxmann, Scott and Anita Kuxmann, Ryan O’Connor and
fiance Kristin Callies; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Kutchek,
Leona Skovera both of Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Gloria Wedgwood of
Oconto; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one
son, Dean Kuxmann; four brothers, Fred, Hans, Albert, Otto and three sisters,

Mrs. Philip (Joyce) Simon

Mrs. Philip (Joyce) Simon, 82, Green Bay resident, died Sunday morning, Feb.
13, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Wilmont,
Minn., to the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Mahon) Carey. Joyce was employed by
the IRS office in Green Bay until her retirement in 1965. She married Phil Simon
on June 12, 1965, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. Joyce was formerly a member
of St. Joseph’s Parish and their Altar Rosary Society. She was currently a
member of St. Bernard’s Parish. She is survived by her husband, Phil; five
stepchildren, Anita and Richard Schoen, Jean and James Schumacher, Robert
and Bonnie Simon, Mary and Al Pischke, Mark and Debbie Simon, all of Green
Bay; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Mary Lois
Carey O.P., Oakland, Calif., and Sister Cecilia Carey O.P., Lake Clear, N.Y.;
one brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Grace Carey, Schofield; one
sister-in-law, Eileen Carey, Escondido, Calif.; nieces and nephews. She was

Benjamin Naze

Benjamin Naze, 81, died on February 17, 2000. He was born in Rosiere,
Wisconsin, on April 7, 1918, to Joseph and Josephine (Charles) Naze. He
married the former Ellen LeCaptain on December 27, 1941. He was a graduate
of Algoma High School. He was in the US Navy for 7 years, both before and
during World War II. He served aboard the USS Mississippi and USS Gilmore
as a Chief Petty Officer. He was aboard the Gilmore when she sank a Japanese
submarine in the Aleutain Campaign. He later served in the South Pacific until his
discharge in September, 1945. After his discharge, he attended vocational school
under the G.I. Bill. He was a construction superintendent for the Baker
Construction Company and the Foeller Company prior to starting his own
construction company. He retired after 25 years in business. He loved golfing and
fishing. Ben was a member of Royal Scott Country Club, Martha’s Coffee Club,
the Green Bay Elks Club and the South Side Civic Association. He also served
on the Green Bay Board of Construction Examiners. He was one of the
organizers of Little League in the former Town of Preble and coached Little
League and Babe Ruth baseball. He was a member of St. Bernard Parish. Ben is
survived by his beloved wife Ellen; his son Peter (Judy) Naze Preble; his
daughters Nancy (Bob) Feldman, Minneapolis, Minn.; Ann (Jeff) Toepel, Green
Bay; Pat (Mark) Hodges, Stillwater Minn.; Jayne Naze, Fairbanks, Alaska; and
Elizabeth Naze, Appleton. He was a cherished grandfather to Andy (Lisa) Naze;
Amy Naze; Sara Feldman; and Alyssa Toepel. He is survived by his sister, Marie
Vandervest, Green Bay and his brother, Ralph Naze, Sheboygan. He was
preceded in death by his son, Jon; his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and
Joseph; and four sisters, Libby Krieser, Laura Powers, Ceil May, and Agnes

Mrs. Alfred (Essie) Hansford

Mrs. Alfred (Essie) Hansford, 79, of 845 Howard St., De Pere, died
Wednesday evening, February 16, 2000 at a local nursing home. Essie was born
January 10, 1921, in West De Pere, to the late John and Etta (Monigal)
Manders. She married Norman Van Lanen, who preceded her in death, and then
married Alfred Hansford. Mrs. Hansford had been a cook for many years in De
Pere. Essie was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Green Bay for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and traveling with Sandy and her family. Essie had
a good sense of humor and a great wit. Survivors include her husband, three
children, Sandra and Leonard Smetana, Green Bay, Joe and Donna Van Lanen,
Adell, Wis., Ron and Donna Mae Van Lanen, De Pere; 10 grandchildren, Lisa,
Robert A., Steve, Gina, and Cheryl Salmon, Julie Herman, Tiffany Butzlaff, Sara

Leo C. Geurts, 90, lifelong De Pere resident, passed away Thursday morning
February 17, 2000. The son of the late Arnold and Anna (Aerts) Geurts was
born December 21, 1909 in De Pere. Leo married the former Marie Vander
Heiden, September 4, 1933 at St. Mary Catholic Church De Pere and she
preceded him in death March 17, 1985. Leo worked at Fort Howard Paper Co.
as a machinist for many years. He was a member of the Fort Howard Quarter
Century Club and the Fort Howard Key Club. Leo was a member for St. Mary
Catholic Community De Pere. Survivors include his children Mary Ann (Harold)
Baeten, Nancy Kolb (Darwin) Ringblom, Rosalie Sinclair Eiler and special friend
Tom Richardson, Kenneth C. (Ann) Geurts all of De Pere, Lynn Geurts and

Mrs. Alfred 'Essie' Hansford

Mrs. Alfred (Essie) Hansford, 79, of 845 Howard St., De Pere, died
Wednesday evening, February 16, 2000 at a local nursing home. Essie was born
January 10, 1921, in West De Pere, to the late John and Etta (Monigal)
Manders. She married Norman Van Lanen, who preceded her in death, and then
married Alfred Hansford. Mrs. Hansford had been a cook for many years in De
Pere. Essie was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Green Bay for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and traveling with Sandy and her family. Essie had
a good sense of humor and a great wit. Survivors include her husband, three
children, Sandra and Leonard Smetana, Green Bay, Joe and Donna Van Lanen,
Adell, Wis., Ron and Donna Mae Van Lanen, De Pere; 10 grandchildren, Lisa,
Robert A., Steve, Gina, and Cheryl Salmon, Julie Herman, Tiffany Butzlaff, Sara
Hockers, Teri Lynn, and Dan Van Lanen; many great grandchildren and one
sister, Phyllis Stephenson, Oshkosh. She was preceded by her parents and four

Wayne A. Berton, died Saturday, February 12, at the early age of 56 of lung
cancer. A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Wayne has resided in Savannah for
the past 12 years. Beloved husband of Peggy Berton, reunited with his mother,
Alice Berton, who preceded him in death just five days earlier, and his father,
Alfred Berton. Survivors include three sisters, Shelby (Ray) Dunn, Sharon (Art)
Otto, and Judy (Dave) Perock; three daughters, Brooke Juza, Bobby Jo (Gene)
Draper, and Jessica; seven grandchildren. Wayne will be sadly missed by the
American Tobacco Industry, Anheuser Busch Brewing Company, his family and

Delbert F. Nick

Delbert F. Nick, 69, Green Bay resident, joined our heavenly father, Sunday,
February 6, 2000 at his home. He was born June 5, 1930 in Green Bay to Rose
(Peter) Nick and the late Theodore Nick. Del married the former Elaine Calhoon
on September 17, 1955 at Annunciation Church in Green Bay. He was employed
by James River Corp. for 41 years retiring in 1992. Del was a member of the
Retired Mens Club, enjoyed trapshooting and especially woodworking. He
enjoyed making projects for his three granddaughters. Del was a lifetime member
of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; two
children, John Nick, Green Bay, Nancy and George Beckers, Green Bay; three
granddaugthers, Shaina, Heather and Lily Beckers; two brothers and
sisters-in-law, Jerry and Marge Nick, Larry and Joan Nick, all of Green Bay; his
mother Rose Nick, Green Bay; one brother-in-law, Gene and Joyce Calhoon,
Green Bay; nieces and nephews, especially Kathy and Bill Maciejczak. He was
preceded in death by his father, Ted Nick and mother-in-law Rose Calhoon.

Mr. Robert (Bob) Hockers

Mr. Robert (Bob) Hockers, 83, of De Pere, died early Monday morning,
January 31, 2000, in a local hospital. The son of the late Henry and Mary (Hoks)
Hockers was born December 21, 1916 in the Town of Hobart. He married the
former Verna Cornelissen on October 5, 1946 at St. Boniface Church, De Pere.
Bob worked at Fort Howard Paper Company for 32 years, prior to retirement in
1979. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and the Key Club at Ft.
Howard. Mr. Hockers enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Survivors his wife,
Verna, their children, Robert H. and Mary Hockers, of Howard, Ralph and
Debbie Hockers, De Pere, Diane Hockers, De Pere; five grandchildren, Tammy
Hockers and her special friend, Mark LaFountaine, Brian, Eric, Shaun, and Chad
Hockers; three great grandchildren, Colten, Riley, and Bryce, a special friend of
the family, Dena Posenke; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Walter and Mary

Mrs. Walter, Alvina,'Ina' Pagel

Mrs. Walter, Alvina, 'Ina' Pagel, the former Alvina C. Dickinson of Mill Center,
lovingly went with the Lord and to the waiting arms of her dear husband on
Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Rennes Health Care Center, De Pere. Ina lived in
Green Bay at 1283 Mather St. She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran
Church. The daughter of the late Jessie and Hannah (Lancaster) Dickinson was
born June 12, 1902, in Mill Center. On Nov. 17, 1924, Ina married Walter F.
Pagel. Ina was a devoted wife and kept a loving home for her family. Ina was full
of endless energy. While raising her family she ran a large boarding house in her
home on the corner of Chestnut and Howard Streets. When her children were
raised, she worked as the head baker at Holzer’s Corner Drug for many years.
Ina enjoyed camping in Door County with her family, dancing with her husband,
sewing and crocheting, preparing family dinners and spending time with her
grandchildren. Gramma’s cookie jar was always full of her special baked
cookies. She is survived by and was the loving mother of her son, Orville and his
wife Ellen Pagel, Green Bay; her daughter, Donna Rae (Pagel) Clarkieu, Green
Bay; four granddaughters and their spouses, Kim and Richard Ramirez, Abilene,
Texas; Toni and Ricky VanLieshout, Pegi Clarkieu and Jessie Clarkieu, all of
Green Bay; her great-grandchildren, Kelly and Ryan Ramirez, Abilene, Texas,
Chelsie and Leah VanLieshout, Green Bay; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Pagel
and Mae Delamater, both of Green Bay. She was preceded in death by her

Mary S. Gibbons Nelson 'Seftie', 63, 2926 Waubenoor Drive, passed away on
Wednesday evening, January 5, 2000 at a local hospital. Mary was born on
January 19, 1936 at the Women’s Hospital in New York City the daughter of the
late Dr. John Martin Gibbons and Mary Frances Darr Gibbons. Seftie managed
B. Dalton Book Store in Port Plaza Mall from 1983-1992. On February 27,
1960 she married John C. Nelson at Saint Aloysius’ in Great Neck, New York.
She was a graduate of Marywood Seminary, Scranton, Pa. and Marymount
College, Manhattan, New York. Survivors include her husband John; five
children and their spouses John C. and Therese Nelson, Saint Charles, Ill. Laura
and Scott Anderson, Twinsburg, Ohio; Jennifer and Galen Hathcock, LaGrange,
Ill., Catherine and Terrence Wilkinson, Mequon; Robert W. Nelson, Chicago, 12
grandchildren; three brothers Dr. John M. Gibbons, William D. Gibbons and
Myles Gibbons; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Friends may call

Frances 'Fran' Van Vonderen

Frances 'Fran' Van Vonderen, 96, a lifelong De Pere resident, passed away Jan.
1, 2000, at a local nursing home. The daughter of John and Emma (Smet) Van
Vonderen was born May 18, 1903, in the Town of Rockland. Fran worked as a
Legal Secretary for Smith, Smith, and Roels law firm in De Pere. She was a
member of St. Mary Catholic Community in De Pere and its Altar Rosary
Society. Fran was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Club, the De Pere
Women’s Club, and she was the first honorary member of the Brown County
Legal Secretary’s Club. Fran is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces
and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and
six sisters. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday (today) at St. Mary
Catholic Community, Pope John XXIII Circle off Sportsman Drive, Town of

Doris F. Pamperin

Doris F. Pamperin, 90, long time resident of Green Bay, Wisconsin, died
Saturday, January 1, 2000 while cruising with her family aboard the MS
Sensation in the Gulf of Mexico. Doris was born December 8, 1909 in Plainfield,
Wisconsin to John and Lula (Walter) Fields. She married Arnold T. Pamperin,
Captain USNR, May 4, 1935 who preceded her in death in 1991. Doris
graduated from Green Bay East High School and was employed by the
Milwaukee office of the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation. Active in Girl
Scouting, Doris organized and was skipper of the 1st Mariner Girl Scout troupe
of Green Bay, and later served as Secretary and Commissioner of the Nicolet
Area Girl Scout Council. She was also active in the Green Bay, Brown County
and Wisconsin Historical Societies and served six years as a trustee of the
society’s auxiliary organization. Doris is a charter member of the Pilgrim
Congregational Church and a member of the Priscila Society. In Green Bay she is
also a member of the Jean Nicolet Chapter of the DAR, Antiquarian Society,
Friends of the Neville Public Museum, the Museum Society and the Oneida Golf
and Country Club. In St. Petersburg, Florida she is a member of the Isla del Sol
Country Club, St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the Retired Officers Wives Club.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Susan Saffer, Saugatuck, Michigan; her son
and daughter-in-law, Ted and Karen Pamperin, Sparta, New Jersey, and
grandchildren, Kim Pamperin, Heidi Lyn, Kristin Pamperin, Tracy Pamperin,
Shawn (Jeff) Peek. Doris is also survived by one sister and two brothers, Ruth
(Fields) Pasco, Belpre, Ohio, Hubert W. Fields, Milwaukee, Wis., and John
Fields Jr., Yuma, Ariz. Her son Stephen F. Pamperin and two brothers James
and Glen Fields preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be scheduled in the spring. Friends and family will
be notified. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials to the
Pilgrim Congregational Church or to the Heritage Hill Foundation are
welcome.

Bernard Joseph Liebmann

Bernard Joseph Liebmann, the son of Herbert C. and Mary Magdeline (Platten)
Liebmann, was born June 3, 1921 at Green Bay, Wisconsin. He departed this life
on Friday, December 31, 1999 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 78 years.
Bernie grew up in Green Bay, attending grade school at St. Francis Xavier
Cathedral. He graduated from East High School in 1939, and completed his
formal education at the Badger Business College in Green Bay. A veteran of
World War II, Bernie served with the United States Air Corp from 1942-1945.
He completed the pilot training program before being discharged as a 2nd
Lieutenant at war’s end. On May 30, 1945 Bernie was united in marriage with
Mary Margaret (Monie) Doran in Green Bay. From this union they were blessed
with 10 children. Bernie was involved in the family business, the Liebmann
Packing Company, from an early age and was instrumental in building the packing
company into one of the largest meat packing plants east of the Mississippi at that
time, and he eventually became the general manager. Thereafter, he owned
Liebmann Transportation in Iowa Falls, Iowa and then Marton Trucking Line in
Perry, Iowa. In the early 1980’s they moved to California where Bernie worked
with his son Tom at Professional Records Storage until his retirement. Bernie
enjoyed boating, golfing and he especially looked forward to time spent with his
children and grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter
Patricia Ann in 1966; a son Paul Joseph (P.J.) in 1988; sister Catherine
Heyrman; sister-in-law Mary Rita Vercautern; and a brother-in-law Don Beno.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Monie of Calabasas, California; five sons:
Tom and wife Donna of Oak Park, California; Steve and wife Marianne of
Bozeman, Montana; Gary and wife Cathy of Eagan, Minnesota; Mark of Wilton,
Iowa, and Kurt and wife Celina of Los Angeles; three daughters: Jackie and
husband Neal Stephany of Nashua, New Hampshire; Teresa (Lu) and husband
Dayre Williams of Red Cloud; Nebraska, and Jean Howard of Wilton, Iowa; 19
grandchildren; two brothers: Herbert Liebmann and wife Marie of Luxemburg,
Wisconsin, and Don Liebmann and wife Muriel of Green Bay; a brother-in-law
Dr. Don Heyrman of Hartland, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. Friends

May M. Hruska, 87, formerly of Pilsen, died early Sunday morning, January 2,
2000 at a local hospital. She was born on June 7, 1912 in Pilsen to the late
Andrew and Anna (Nemetz) Hruska. May was a lifelong member of St. Joseph
Church, Pilsen and a member of St. Joseph Rosary Society. May served as a
housekeeper for Rev. John Johanek for over 50 years. Also, she recently became
a member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay. Survivors include two
brothers and two sisters-in-law, Edward Hruska, Eugene and Virginia Hruska,
and Grace Hruska, all of Green Bay; 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded
in death by two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Joseph Hruska, James and
Marie Hruska, Juanita Hruska; two nephews and one niece. Friends may call at

Mrs. Raymond (Mildred) De Kelver

Mrs. Raymond (Mildred) De Kelver. Heaven is a little bit brighter today because
God chose Millie to join him on Wednesday morning, December 29, 1999. She
was 80 years old and a resident of Green Bay. Millie was born January 11, 1919
in Bay Settlement to the late Emil and Mary (Laundrie) Brice. She married
Raymond De Kelver on July 2, 1938 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was
proud to be a full time mother. Millie and Ray enjoyed spending time at their
cottage, playing cards with their friends, and going on different trips. She also
cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and their
families. Millie was a longtime member of SS Peter and Paul Parish. She is
survived by her husband Raymond, two daughters and one son-in-law: Bonnie
Englebert, Sue and Ken Schaetz, all Green Bay, five grandchildren: Dean, Jay,
Kelly, Jessie and Heidi, eight great grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Elmer De
Kelver, De Pere, five sisters-in-law: Mae Van Rens, Green Bay, Ida Piotrowski,

Mr. Gerald P. Lieuwen, 58, De Pere, died Monday December 27, 1999 at his
home. He was born on June 14, 1941 in Green Bay to John and Alvira (Nehring)
Lieuwen. On April 16, 1966 Gerald married the former Rosemary Schaetz at St.
Matthews Catholic Church in Allouez. He worked at Wisconsin Public Service
for 37 years most recently as an Electrical Line Supervisor. He was a junior
achievement mentor and taught Electrical Classes at NWTC through WPS. He
enjoyed traveling camping, fishing, neighborhood Booyah parties and coaching
Little League and Hockey for his son. Survivors include his wife of 33 years
Rosemary; three children, Sheila (Ralph) Dettmann, Ashwaubenon, Patricia (Jeff)
Landin, Brookfield, Gary Lieuwen, Menominee, Mich.; four grandchildren,
Kelsey and Brennan Dettman, Alexander and Carson Landin; his parents John
and Alvira Lieuwen, De Pere; one sister, Kay (Paul) Roffers, De Pere; one
brother, Mike Lieuwen, De Pere; nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one infant sister, Eileen Marie. The family will

Lorman C. Johnson

Lorman C. Johnson, 72, of Green Bay, passed away on December 23, 1999,
after an extended illness due to pleural mesothelioma. He was born on May 19,
1927 in Green Bay to the late Viggo and Nellie (Christensen) Johnson. He served
in the United States Army during World War II. Lorman was employed by
Massey Floor Covering, and later worked as a private contractor. Lorman is
survived by two sons, Gary (Lynn) Johnson of Manitowoc, and Paul DeWaal of
the Netherlands; three daughters, Jeanne (Richard) Diedrich, Janice (Gary)
Laurent of Green Bay, and Cornelia DeWaal of the Netherlands; four
grandchildren, Shawn Johnson, Melissa (Jamie) Thayse, Gary Johnson and Sara
Bruening; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Jordan and Madyson; sister Calla
Steinfeldt and brother Virgil (Shirley) Johnson. He was preceded in death by

Mrs. Maurice (Violette) Hoopingarner, 100, Green Bay, died Monday,
December 27, 1999 at a local nursing home. She was born October 4, 1899 in
Menominee, Mich. to the late Philip and Mary (Pauley) Harter. On August 25,
1926, she married Maurice Hoopingarner in Menominee, Mich. and he died
December 19, 1972. Violette was a member if First Presbyterian Church, life
member of Menominee Order of Eastern Star #284, Green Bay Nazarene Shrine
#8, Auxiliary Palestine Commandry #20, and Shrine Auxiliary. Survivors include
one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Doris Hoopingarner, White Lake,
Wis.; four grandchildren, Dale, Robin, Bret, and Dawn; and five

Mrs. Christ (Josephine) Kleuskens

Mrs. Christ (Josephine) Kleuskens, 103, of De Pere, died Monday evening,
December 20, 1999 at a local nursing home. The daughter of the late Peter and
Caroline (Berendt) Sausen was born December 6, 1896 in the Town of
Lawrence. On November 29, 1921, she married Christ Kleuskens at St.
Boniface Catholic Church. She and her husband farmed in the Town of Lawrence
prior to retirement in 1960. They then moved into De Pere. Mr. Kleuskens
preceded Josephine in death on December 7, 1970. She loved gardening and
playing cards and going for Sunday picnic rides with Trace and John. Josephine
was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who was happiest when she
was able to share her life and her things with others. Survivors include one
daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Marvin Leininger, one daughter-in-law,
Mrs. John (Mary) Kleuskens, one sister-in-law, Mary Sausen, 17 grandchildren,
Judy Vanevenhoven, Dan Kleuskens, Diane Baumgart, Bonnie Van Handel,

Lenore M. "Lee" Connors

Age 92, of the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein, formerly of Chilton, died on Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the nursing home. She was
born on February 2, 1908, in Chilton, daughter of the late Henry and Theresa (Diedrich) Steffes. She married Thomas Connors on
February 14, 1928, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton; he preceded her in death on July 31, 1975. Lee worked as a cashier for the
Chilton Shopping Center for several years, and she and Tom were custodians for the Chilton City Hall for several years, and she served as
organist for the Germania Club in Chilton. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chilton, the Christian Mothers, the
V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the Chilton Senior Citizens. Lee enjoyed crafts, photography, board games, quilting, music, playing the organ, but
most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Dean (Alice) Connors, Chilton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by
a daughter, Marilyn Mills; a son, Patrick Connors; a sister, Mildred Corbett, and a brother, Alvin Steffes.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2000, at St. Augustine Church, with the Reverend Gary New, S.D.S.,

Herbert A. Wetzel

Age 72, died at his home Thursday afternoon, March 2, 2000. Herb was born September 23, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late
Herbert A. and Ellen (Driscoll) Wetzel Sr. He married Augusta Schaly on March 6, 1964. She preceded him in death in December 1999.
Herb made a career of the military, first in the U.S. Navy, and then in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Meritorious Service
Award, retiring in 1976. He served in the Vietnam War in 1967 and again in 1970, where he was wounded and received two purple hearts.

Survivors include three brothers, Eugene (Patricia) Wetzel, Marion; Donald (Joan) Wetzel, Appleton; Raymond (Liz) Wetzel, Canton,
Ohio; two sisters, Mary (Elmer) Piotraschke, Clintonville; Florence (James) Van Nuland, San Jose, California; and numerous nieces,
nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy and Gloria Wetzel. There will be a private
memorial service including military honors for Herbert at a later date.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Pat and Gene Wetzel and their son, John, for caring for Herb, and for Jim Quick and all the
Home Health staff who took great care of Herb.

Audrey J. Lemerande, age 67, 325 South Washington Street,
Shawano, died on Friday March 3, 2000, at Heartland Health
Care Center.
She was born on June 13, 1932, in Waubeno, daughter of the
late Leo and Dorothy (Schneider) Leanna. She and her husband
owned and operated the Coachlite Supper Club in Seymour from
1970 to 1979 and moved to Shawano in 1979. Audrey was a
waitress at Flamingo’s for several years. She enjoyed playing the
piano, organ and singing, and also enjoyed bowling, golfing and
playing spite and malice. She married Lloyd Lemerande on Dec.
7, 1974, in Lake wood. She was a member of the Shawano
County Homemakers.
Survivors include: her husband, Lloyd; six children. Terry
(Linda) Lemerande, Waupaca, Russell (Patricia) Lemerande,
Green Bay, Barbara (Dan) Gadzalinski, Wausaukee, Scott
Lemerande, Green Bay, Lori (James) Lardinois, Freedom, Robert
(Leigh) Lemerande, Lena; 14 grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane Suess, Sturgeon Bay
and Bonnie Phillips, Green Bay. She was preceded in death by a
son in infancy.
Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. on Monday, March 6, at
Swedberg Funeral Home, Shawano, with the Rev. David Barrett
officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the
funeral home from 6 p.m. Monday until the time of services.

Ruth E. Bender, age 69. of 1315 Millersville Ave., Howards, Grove, died unexpectedly on Saturday March 4, 2000 at Sheboygan
Memorial Medical Center where she had been a patient for one day.

She was born July 11, 1930 in the town of Sheboygan Falls, a daughter of the late Herman and Clara Schomberg Paul. Ruth attended
Prange School.

Ruth Paul and Gerhardt Bender were united in marriage on April 27, 1949 at Saron United Church of Christ. The couple farmed in the
town of Herman, retiring and moving to Howards Grove in 1994. Ruth enjoyed entertaining, and together with Gerhardt were active with
card clubs in the area. She also enjoyed crocheting items to give to family and friends, and did babysitting.

Ruth's family was always the most important part of her life. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in town of Herman,
and was a past president of the Women's Guild of the Church.

Surviving Ruth is her husband, Gerhardt-, a son, Jeffrey (Mary) of Plymouth;

two daughters, Darlene (Jerome) Lefeber of Fond du Lac and Sharon (Billy) Kuhfuss of Markesan; eight grandchildren, Amy (Allen) Ries,
Peter (Holly) Lefeber, Sara (Tim) Roltgen, Brian Lefeber, Daniel Kuhfuss, Patrick (Ofelia) Kuhfuss, Stacy and Joshua Bender; four
great-grandchildren, Rachel and Elizabeth Ries, Alicia Kuhfuss and Charles Roltgen.

She is further survived by two sisters, Esther Heusterberg of Howards Grove and Evelyn Erbstoeszer of Janesville; four sisters in law,
Gladys Buechel of Howards Grove, Connie Bender of Newton, Elaine Schuette-Bender of Plymouth and Rosie Bender of Kiel; two
brothers in law, Robert Bender of Pembine, WI., and Richard (Carol Mae) Bender of Howards Grove.

A funeral service will be conducted for Ruth on Tuesday March 7, 2000 at 8 p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ with the Reverend
Wayne Drueck, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be made in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum of Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends

Pauline C. Wieting, 89, of 1632 Division Ave., passed away, Saturday, March 4, 2000 at the Morningside Health Center.

Born September 17, 1910 in Sobieski, WI, Pauline was a daughter of the late Paul and Pauline Alves Mielke. Pauline moved to Sheboygan
in 1928.

On April 24,1931, she married Otto Drenker at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Otto preceded her in death on May 7, 1966, On
June 26, 1971, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Wieting.

Pauline was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church.

She is survived by her husband, Gilbert; two daughters, Ruth Pape, June (Arthur) Margenau, both of Sheboygan; 22 grandchildren;
numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister Mildred (Harold) Pantel, Sheboygan; a stepson, James Wieting,
Sheboygan; a stepdaughter, Mary Jane (Dan) Pawasarat, Sheboygan; four step-grandchildren;

a son-in-law, Clayton Wilmot; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lindsey Grace TenDolle, 2, of W4570 Center Avenue, Waldo (Hingham) passed away on Saturday morning, March 4, 2000 at her home
following a lengthy illness.

Lindsey was born on February 7, 1998 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, the loving daughter of Joel and Lane (Katsma) Ten Dolle.

Lindsey and her family worship together at the Gibbsville Reformed Church.

She is survived by her parents, Joel and Lana (Katsma) Ten Dolle of Hingham;

her brother, Justin; her grandparents, Gerald and Pauline Katsma of Oostburg, Glen and Annette TenDolle of Cedar Grove; two great
