.-BAILEYS HARBOR - The family of Walter
Ellmahn would like to notify friends in the com.munity that Dad died
February 29, 2000 at his home in Baileys Harbor. He had lived with leukemia for
the past year, but died peacefully surrounded b his family.
He was born January 26, 1921 Oconto. September 14, 1946 he married Doris
Anderson in Oconto.
Dad and Mom (Doris) raised their family of seven in Oconto until 1965, during
which time Dad was a photographer and reporter for the Oconto County Reporter
newspaper, sales manager of the Oconto Brewing Company and the Bond Pickle
Company.
. The family the moved to New Berlin for seven years where Dad was manager of
five Milwaukee community newspapers, finally settling in Fish Creek in 1972
where hey owned and operated The Galley restaurant until 1976.
In subsequent years Dad worked for both Peninsula and Newport State parks, was
an assistant music teacher at Gibraltar Area Schools and ran the lunch programs
there for 12 years. In his semi-retirement, Dad was general manger for Peninsula
Golf Associates.
- For the past 15 years, Mom and Dad have spent, their winters in Tucson, Ariz.,
and summers in Baileys Harbor. Music has been a constant source of joy through-
out his life from his early dance bands, his World War If Army band service with
the Ninth Amiored Division, and through- out his church choir direction in
Oconto, Fish Creek and Baileys Harbor. He continued playing weekend gigs with
his Dixieland and dance bands in Wisconsin and Arizona up until his diagnosis
last January.
He was a very skilled wood crafter and builder. He and Mom built their first
home in-Oconto entirely by themselves, except for the plumbing, which Dad hated
to do! In his last years, Dad enjoyed a peaceful life in his workshop in the
woods in Baileys Harbor and spending time which his children, Steven, David,
Carol, Beth, Peter and Theresa; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan, who died in 1967.

Private funeral services were held March 3 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic
Church, Baileys Harbor. Interment will be held May 13 at Oconto Catholic

OCONTO- Carl W. Noack, 88,
3265 County A, died Friday evening March 3, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital Medical
Center, Green Bay' I
Carl was born in; Oconto December 15, 191 1, the son of the late August and Ida
(Gratz) Noack. In 1917 the family moved to a farm in the town of Little River.
They built a house and other farm buildings.
Carl's father died in 1941 at which time he took over the farm. He farmed until
1957 at which time he sold the farm. After that he did ddd iobs and worked
around home. 'Me house Carl grew up in is where he I ived @@all of his life.
Even in his later years, Carl kept active working around the yard and in his
gar- den. He was -a member of First Presbyterian Church Oconto, and was a member
of the Odd Fellows Lodge for over 65 years.
He is survived by: two nephews. Dennis @ (Shirley) Wyent of Downers Grove, III
and Kenneth (Janet) Noack, Parrish, Fla; great nieces and nephews; other
relatives and friends.
Carl was preceded in death by two brothers, Merle and Clifford, :and by two
sisters, Mildred and Margaret.
Service of Christian Burial was held Sun., Marcti I 5 at Rhodes-Charapata I
Furneral Home, Oconto, with the Rev. Donald Clarke officiating.
Interment -at Evergreen Cemetery.
GREEN BAY - Joseph F. Le Breck, 87, died
Wednesday, March 1, 2000. He was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Oconto, to the late
Arthur and Jennie @Murphy) Le Breck.
On June 22, 1942, he Varied Dorothy Burbey. He was employed by Better Built Wood
Products for 20 years until his retirement in 1975. Mr. Le Breek

OCONTO - Elizabeth
A. "Betty" Riewe, 87, 441 Madison St., pased away March 2,2000
at the Oconto Memorial Hospital. She was bom February 24, 1913 in Oconto to the
late Charles and Elizabeth (Mueller) Werth. She was a life long resident of
Oconto. On June 10, 1939 she married Victor H. Riewe at the First American
Lutheran Church. He preceded her irk death August 9, 1989. She was a graduate of
Oconto High School, class of 1931. Mrs. Riewe was an active member of First
American Lutheran Church where she was a choir member, member of a Bible study
group, ,past president of the Ladies Aid .and past secretary of Naomi Circle.
She had been employed at the Marinette Knitting Mill and Laureman's department
store.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Larry) Fritz, Mauston; two sons, Tom
(Julie), Madison; John (Cindy), Green Bay; a brother-in-law, Alvin (Neva) Riewe'
Fort Myers, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Vera Orth, Charlote Harbor, Fla.; Aleta
Riewe, Hilliard, Ohio; Alice Lemorande, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Eric and
Victoria Fritz, Jason and Kyle Riewe; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sis- ters, Eleanor
Tittlie, Ethel Finger and Helen Nerenhausen; and an infant son, James.
The funeral was held Sunday, March 5 at her church with the Rev. Richard
DeBenedetto officiating. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

SOUTH HADLEY, MASS - Jean H. (
Haglund ) Vanderscoff, 78, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000 at the Holyoke
Hospital in Holyoke, Mass.
Born Sept. 9, 1921, Camey's Point, NJ, she was the daughter of Georg and Lucile
(Smith) Haglund. She was a 1940 graduate of the Morris High School in Morris,
III and she was 1944 graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton. She later
lived in Northampton, Mass and briefly in Hatfield, Mass. before she moved to
South Hadley in 1984. She had worked for the Moorse Manufacturing Company making
cannon shells during WWII, and later for the International Harvester Co. in
Chicago. She was a member of the Edwards Church Northampton, Mass.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John M. Vanderscoff; a son, Mark
Vanderscoff of Novato, CA, a daughter, Jan Ford of Fairfax, VA, as well as four
grandchildren
Burial Services will take place in the Spring in the Weyauwega Cemetery in

80, didd- peacefully at home on February 28, 2000 in the compa- ny of her
husband, pastor, chil- dren and friends. She was borti to the late Herman and
Nettie (Nelson) Benzine ; January7, 1920 in Rio, Wi. She manied Albert Diehlmann
April 15, 1939 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio', She spent her life raising
her, children, cooking gardening and caring for her nousehold a? domestic life
in which she took much pride. She enjoyed family gatherings, play- ing cards
with friends, her dog Annie, her cat, and feeding and watching the birds in her
yard. She was a congregate of Calvary Lutheran Church, Abrams, where she was a
member of, the Ladies Aid Society. She was also a past rhernber of the Lena
Homemakers Club.
Over the years she worked as a school bus driver, Matron for Oconto County
Sheriff's Department and was Assisted Living Aid for the' Oconto County
Department of Social Services. '

BONDUEL - Jessie E. Sohr,
104, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 at home, She was bom Sept. 3, 1895, in
Greenville to the late James B. and Jennie (Cough) Mills. Jessie always wanted
to b@ a teacher, and after graduating from Outagamie Teacher's School, she
taught in Shawano County for 17 years. She taught at Rose Lawn, Green Valley,
Advance, Bonduel and Bowler. She was the first teacher in Bonduel to teach
sewing- Jessie married Harold W. Sohr June 18, 1931, at her family home in
Advance. The couple lived on State Street in Bonduel all of their married life
and Jessie continued to live there after Harold preceded her in death Dec. 2,
1988. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church Bonduel, a past president
of Ladies Aid and Bonduel Woman's Club, a Girl Scout and Brownie Troop Leader
for 17, years, member of Shawano Community Hospital Legacy Club, Shawano Masonic
Lodge Sweetheart and was involved in MasonWoods Community.
Jessie enjoyed gardening and her flowers, tatting, crocheting, knitting, sewing,
baking, travel- ing, card clubs and her lake cot- tage. She was known for her
beautiful handwriting. At 102 years she was honored to have the first ride on
new Hwy 29 from Shawano to Bonduel and was recognized by Gov. Tommy Thompson at
the Highway dedi- cation.
Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Peterson, Champaign, Ill.; and a son G.H.
Randy (Dorothy) Sohr'Green Bay; four grandchildren, Patti Jo Sohr, Liberty
Lake,Wash.; Barbara Sohr, Green Bay; Jeff Peterson, Champaign, fili; and . Bob

years. In later years he was a self-employed asphalt maintenance contractor and
